R9 290x freesync not working on Samsung lc27fg70

Hello,

As the title says I have a Gigabyte R9 290x and I just bought a 144Hz panel and I'm having troubles enabling freesync. Samsung LC27FG70 is the panel. The card is water cooled, don't think it's related but I'm just putting it out there.

I downloaded the latest AMD drivers Adrenalin 18.3.4 and installed the monitor drivers from samsung's website.

From what I can tell 290x supports freesync on both Display port and HDMI, as it's listed under cards that support it on AMD's websaite. I have tried on both and it's the same. I used the cables that came with the monitor. It is currently set on DP 1.2

In amd drivers it just says not supported and in the monitor menu Freesync is grayed out.
Also, I can't get any sound to play over the monitor's speakers, don't know if that's related. Maybe I got a lemon?

I just bought this panel so I can return it if I can't get it to work.

Would appreciate any insight into this as I'm stumped.

Edit: I am upgrading from a 60Hz monitor and I've never tried freesync before so I can't tell if it was working before or not.

Ok, so it turns out it was because I had set the response time to fastest. Turning that back to standard enabled the freesync option. A mod can lock this. Thanks
