r9 290x with EVGA 650 GQ 80Plus Gold

is EVGA 650 GQ 80Plus Gold a proper choice for my Asus r9 290x direct cu II.According to the recommended hardware on the box of the card the psu must be at least 750 watt.
here is my system specifications
i7 7600
asus z170a
4*4 gb trident z 3200
ssd and hdd plus a dvd rom drive
Can i even think about overclocking it with the above mentioned psu.

It will be enough. Yes you can overclock if you wish.

from asus web page the gpu is 300w max. 25amps on the 12v rail. the 12v rail is 500w or more you should be fine.

my current psu is Corsair VS650 Power Supply and a friend of mine highly advised me not to use it with r9 290x. in fact I am a little scared to turn on my computer.
is it really needed to go for an upgrade or it is not that much serious.

the 650w unit would be a better unit. when looking at power supply from 3 party resellers google who make it and if anyone has reviewed and load tested the unit. superflower seasonic and few other oem power supply vendors make good units that are rebranded. the raidmax is of an unknown 3 party vendor. do you want the unit to fail and kill your gaming rig?? when buying units look at power supply tier list and go for tier one or tier 2 units.

the vs is a entry level power supply. use hardware info and set it to logging and sensor. check that under load the 12v rail is at 11.8v or higher if it not the video and mb can lock up.

The GQ series is decent , made by FSP , NOT Elite like the GS and G2 models.
