r9 295x2 best gpu for the money?

I literally just went from a XFX R9 295X2 to this exact setup and it's been a great move.

8gb vs 4gb of vram in a game like gta 5 dont you think r9 295x2 would do alot better, also im counting the mods that will com later and will eat lots and lots of vram.

It's not 8GB VRAM it's 2X4GB VRAM like the GTX 970 would be. Well, the 970 is technically 3.5GB but that's another story. The R9 295X2 is a dual 290X GPU so it's 4GB VRAM per GPU, not 8GB like the deceiving marketing suggests.

ok so right now im running gta 670 2gb vram and after what you just explained to me my mind got blown. also i was reading about amd on how they literally going down under.180 million dollar net loss. + there whole drivers being crap im going to stay away.

so ima stick to team green, do you know any version of gtx 980 that has more then 4gb of vram?

also iv read on nvidia reddit that gtx 980 ti will be released next month, so should i just wait?

There is no reason to get a card with more than 4GB VRAM unless you are gaming at 4K or higher resolutions. VRAM doesn't give you any better performance but allows for more pixels to be loaded into the memory.

"AMD's drivers being crap" is a falsehood. Both companies occasionally run into driver issues but on the whole, Radeon drivers have improved significantly over the years. If you google looking for problems with a card, you will find them. I guarantee you there will be more complaints about the 970, even proportional to their market share.

Now as for best GPUs for the money:
For best single card, yes the 295x2 is the best card for the money, though it's important to note while it's a single card it's also two GPUs and relies on crossfire to get better performance than a 290x. If you DO run into a game that doesn't support multi GPU, it will have 290X performance (which is still quite good).

For best single gpu, it's a tie between the 290X and the 970. The 970 offers a bit more performance @ 1080p, but is also a bit more expensive.

If you throw price/performance out the window and just look @ performance, then the best card is the Titan X. Terrible, terrible value, but unquestionably the best single gpu. (but not best single card)

Finally, as to the to the "should I wait" question, at this point the consensus is yes. The Radeon 300 series is due out in June, and the GTX 980 Ti as Nvidia's response to it. But two months from now the graphics situation will certainly look different.

^^ What Jerdle said ^^

But, if you want the best for a good price right now, then jump on that R9 295x2. You get a little wonky stutter here and there from frame pacing, but man will you have some GPU power. It also has plenty of VRAM for the time being.

If you're going to spend a lot more money on a slightly more refined setup with dual GPUs, then wait for the 980 ti and snag two of them. The experience will be pretty smoothed out compared to the R9 295x2, and you'll have more GPU power with more VRAM - at a cost, though.
