Yes, although i'd recommend OP with going for like an MSI 960 2G gaming or EVGA SSC 960, they overclock very nicely and so far i've beat out most 380s out there overclocked and stock in almost every benchmark and games once i overclock my MIS 960. If you do plan on buying a 960, asus, msi, evga and gigabyte are good options, other than that, go for a 380 if they are not avalible. Although, MSI for a 960 or Sapphire for a 380. There is still some time for the 960ti to come out(not long though) but for playing at 1080, a 960 or 380 is totally worth every last penny, assuming you have 1080p 😀. As for the 380x, the card is not worth it, you can achieve similar if not same performance on an overclocked 380. cheers

yup playing on 1080p monitor..

The GTX 960 is very good for overclocking but the voltage is limited without BIOS fiddling. You can add like +150 Core clock and +400 Memory clock and run it with very stable performance.

Because the specs of the GTX 960/R9 380 are not optimal for 4GB VRAM usage. There is a reason these GPU's are originally 2GB VRAM graphics cards.

will there be any difference in terms of fps between the 2gb and 4gb?

People who say 4GB on these cards is useless have clearly never tried them. It's absolutely nonsense. I myself have an MSI R9 380 4GB. On GTA V, 1080p, most settings on ultra, no MSAA, I'm getting around 3500mb VRAM usage with a solid 60 fps. No stuttering at all. I also have a friend who owns a GTX 960 2GB, and although he does run the game at about the same fps as me, he stutters sometimes, and textures struggle to load while travelling quickly through the city.

On games like GTA V, Shadows of Mordor, Attila Total War, the last Assassins Creed, Space Engineers, and some others it does go way over 2GB VRAM usage on 1080p. This list of games will only keep increasing with time. If you want to be futureproof, forget about 2GB VRAM cards.

As for which cards I recommend, I'd probably go with the 960. It overclocks very well, and will give you no issues. The R9 380 is faster, especially when overcloked, but some games clearly have some driver issues with AMD cards, such as horrible performance on games like the Total War series and Space Engineers.

Just my 2 cents.

so for raw performance the 380 is better?? but if the 960 will be OC'd it will beat the 380??? is that it??
and for drivers and optimization the 960 is better??

For raw performance, the 380 is better, yes, and the 960 has much more overclocking room than the the 380, but an overclcoked 960 can't beat an overclocked 380, at least from my experience. I'm sure someone will say otherwise. In the end they are very close to each other.

The 960 does have better drivers, although AMD did promise that this year they would be paying special attetion to fixing and improving performance on their drivers, most likely to get them on par with Nvidia's. That MAY widen the gap in performance between the 960 and 380.

This is incorrect, just my 960 can beat any 380 out there, 380s do not overclock close to a 960, just in my opinion, if you manage to tune your 960 just perfectly, i can get way more performance. But it's up to OP, just curious what's you valley benchmark HD extreme preset score?

It will stutter less in the games mentioned, yes. But is that worth the premium price over the 2GB models?

And I'm struggling to believe you're running 3.5GB VRAM settings with solid 60 fps in GTA V. You wouldn't be able to do this with a GTX 960 4GB anyways atleast.

If you read my comment again, you'll see that I said the 960s have much more overclocking headroom that the 380s. So what exactly is incorrect, when we both agree on the same thing?

Generally speaking, a 380 will be faster than a 960 by about 5 to 10%. You'll see it in reviews everywhere. After overclocking, it really depends on how lucky you are with your particular chip. Now speaking from personal experience an overclocked 380 will beat an overclcoked 960, it's just that the performance gap becomes even smaller. Then again I also said that I was sure some people would disagree with me. That doesn't make my comment incorrect because I wasn't stating any facts in the first place. I was just speaking from personal experience.

Valley's score is 1594. In firestrike I have scores with both 960s and 380s. Just search for "clairvoux"

Keep in mind I'm not running with MSAA, only FXAA. 2xMSAA ruins my performance to about 40-50fps. With FXAA I'm getting always more than 60, very rarely dipping into the 50s.

My point is, it's up to the OP, but mostly, i disagreed about you saying that 380 oc can beat a 960oc, but everyone has their opinion, cheers m8

That's indeed an incredible score. Well done!
