I am confuse and going to buy a new a gpu for my pc so question is

R9 390 G1 Gaming Or GTX 970 any model?

I have currently zalman Zm-500LZ low profile psu installed right now in my PC. so probably if I go to 390 I have to upgrade my psu as well

my specs
asrock z68 1155
3570k stock
12 GB 1600 mhz corsair vengence
Sandisk X110 128GB
500 GB HDD

Right now with the 390 and 970, for me at least, I think the 390 has taken the place for best card in the $300 range. With it's 8GB frame buffer (not 7.5GB) and its neck to neck performance with the 970, I think the 970 would need to drop in price to take back the spot. And what is your power supply by the way.
it all depends on your resolution, at 1080p, a 970 will play pretty much anything maxed out at 60+ fps without a PSU upgrade, you will save money overall. now going higher, at 1440p or 4k you will see better performance on the 390, due to the larger memory.

Solution
The 290x is okay but you will need some good fans in your system to help move air about because that thing will make your PC an oven, but the 390 is a bit improved on thermals. The 390 is in the same price range and has small upgrades that will make it better. I would still recommend the 390.
