Yo, I got my new R9 390 a few days back and decided to look into overclocking it slightly. I did it properly, slowly, gradually while running constant benchmark checks with FurMark.

I did however run into an issue, I overclocked the Core Clock by 90mHz and the Memory Clock by 50mHz, yet the card gets extremely hot after about 4 minutes of FurMark with MSAA disabled. It reaches 95 degrees and shuts off at about 3:50~, other than that everything seems fine.

It's the ASUS STRIX version, in a Fractal Design 3500 with 4 chassi fans.

i5 4690k / 16gb HyperX Fury 1866mHz / Z97-a.

Anybody know what I should do to lower the heat, or should I just avoid overclocking it completely?

I'll give it a shot and post results here, thanks.

What does it do in Furmark without overclock?

In my experience Furmark is absolutely brutal, I couldn't test my R9 280x as it just overheated in a similar manner to your card. However gaming it was steady around 80c.

I don't know how I didn't think about testing that yet, starting to run it now to check how it goes. I'll post an update soon.

Right, so, FurMark without overclock is going well. 77 FPS rather than the 86 I had with overclock, however the temperature stops rising at about 81 degrees, compared to going to 95+. I'm still downloading Unigine Heaven, it'll take a while.
