Hi.

I'm considering buying a new graphics card, specifically the R9 390x. However, at present I'm using an LG w2243 analogue LCD. The monitor only has a connection for a VGA cable and in the past I have had to use a VGA-DVI adapter to connect it to my GPU (GTX 680) without issue. Will I be able to do the same with the R9?

Thanks
James.

Yes, they include a VGA adapter but are you sure you want to buy an expensive card like that only to minimize its performance by using a VGA cable? Isn't it better to consider getting a new monitor?

For example you can get a GTX 970 which is cheaper than the R9 390X and put the extra money on a new monitor. It will definitely be better than a R9 390X on VGA monitor.

If you are planning to get a new monitor down the road, then it's fine to get the card now and upgrade monitor later.

No it won't the output on your GPU is DVI-D which is not the DVI-I of your previous card, this means you require an active converter.
I would recommend an HDMI to VGA or a display-port to VGA converter as they are cheaper and will work with your card.

An HDMI to VGA may be a bit more useful.
The HDMI one does set resolutions with 1080p and 1920*200 (nothing higher) @60HZ
The display-port to VGA does any res up to 1920*1200, however it doesn't specify the HZ,
I wouldn't recommend the cheaper units as they are known to fail in long load use (most of the reviews are from raspberry pi users on those too)

this card does not come with any adapters, a 970 will as it has a DVI-I output, those are analogue to analogue so are really just, convert your output face, DVI-D is digital so you need to convert a digital signal to an analogue signal, which results in the more complicated tech
