Ram: 16gb 3200 corsair vengence
Gpu: msi r9 390x crossfire
Psu: evga supernova 850w gold
OS: windows 10
Bios version: f6 (latest)

Ive looked around and done what everyone has done to resolve the common black screen and had no luck. This is my first build please tell me what im missing! Surely 2 cards arn't DOA.

1. After fresh build all new parts, had black screen from all ports gpu's and MB. Utillised the 6 and 6+2 vga pwr splitter cable supplied by evga.
2. Removed gpu's from MB and booted, installed windows (dl from MS and made boot disc) and MB software using MB hdmi and on board graphics.
3. Using msi disc installed afterburner and live update.
4. Reinstalled gpu's, booted and same black screen (monitor receives 1080p signal but black screen only).
5. Removed 1x gpu and tried = same result.
6. Removed again and booted using onboard.
7. Foundout the msi live update not supported on gigabyte MB so DL drivers from msi website. Prior to install I DL DDU and cleaned out gpu driver gigabyte MB disc installed.
8. Tried to install driver DL from msi however regular error occuring, preventing it.
9. DL drivers from amd, repeat ddu and install.
10. Reinstall gpu's and same black screen.
11. Tried different pci e slots and swapped cards = same issue.
12. Found out disconnecting pwr to gpu's allow onboard graphics to run independant even though cards are installed to pci e slots.
13. DDU again. Tried to install DL drivers from msi and it worked. However no trace of drivers in device manager. Only MS basic driver.
14. Tried to pwr down and reconnect gpu pwr and reboot. No luck.
15. Tried utilising the 4 vga pwr plugs in psu for the 6 and 6+2. And the supplied with gpu 6 to 8 pin adapters but still no luck.
16. Had previouly updated bios to latest version. And secure boot disabled (only way to enable is choosing windows 10 In bios setting OS. And enabling some assit do flacky.)
17. Obviously still no go.
May have done other crap but nothing works. The fact is the bios isnt recognising the cards from word go and not giving picture on basic drivers.
The bios is set to look at pci e slot 1 (1st gpu). Im fairly sure i havnt missed a hardware install mistake ect. But I dont know how to set up software ect very well.
Its driving me nuts! $3500aud i cant use!!!!! And a massive waste of time.
Hope people can help and offer some fresh advise cos im going bold here.
Thanks

Solution
Oki,
I fixed it finally,
Dumb arse me had in bios settings put in admin password which automatically came up on boot prior to getting into windows.
Turns out the drivers for the cards will only work once windows has booted other wise the cards stay black screen.
I had done heaps of stuff after enabling the password so its hard to tell exactly what may have fixed it.
But bear in mind the gpu's need the drivers to display so they need installing prior to card installing.
I alao had selected winows 8/10 in bios and enabled the lower catagoy (cant member what is was)
Secure boot was unselectable and disabled.
I also changed legacy to efi.
I no longer see the bios screen at boot up and can only enter bios of mobo grapics after...
I had a similar issue in a recent build. Spent days trying to figure it out. I understand the frustration. I don't know if this is your issue, but I can tell you in my case it was the monitor causing the problem. Have you tried a different monitor and/or a different cable?

Hey ya thanks for reply,
Originally it was connected via DP to a 4k AOC monitor. I then plugged it in to my panasonic tv via hdmi to fault find. It does get signal as it says 1080p 50hz when it locks in but only shows a black screen. 'It has happened where i have forgotton to turn off the power supply after shutting down and i connected pwr to gpu on boot up it displays a still of a flickering 1/2 screen windows logo/load circle.' I have to reset to remove it as using the power button to turn off n back on its still there. (Amost like an imprint on the card)

Anyways ill try the monitor again but losing faith big time!

Thanks again, any help.would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is normal but hey they work fine when windows is booted.
Honestly after stuffing around so much i cant remember which drivers were installed (msi website or amd website)

But holy crap the card runs hot! 80-90 degrees celcous with fans 100% using kumbustor.

Anyways i will keep this page open while i sort through the intricacies.

Cheers guys hope this helps you aswell.
