r9 390x vs gtx980 vs gtx980ti vs r9 390

So , i'm currently in highschool and will be building a computer for year 8 so I can study and play games. I need the computer to last 2-3 years so my graphics cards needs to be decent to last. I'm kind of confused of what to get because I'm new to the pc master race. So what graphics card should I get and should I get a gtx 970 and then replace it with a new generation card or buy on of the cards above ,or a gtx 960 replaced annually , or a r9 390 raplaced at the rate of 1.5 years. Should I wait for the new release of amd cards. My budget is approximately $1100-1200 AUD for the span of 3 for graphics. The GPU will be paired with either i7-6700k , fx-8350 , i7-4790k or i5 6600k. I want my games to paly at aorudn 1440p
