Ok, no one laugh at me, this is my first attemtp at building a small gaming PC for my son. So, with that said, which is the better video card for a AMD 1200 Duron, Radeon 9000 or Geforce 4MX? I see they are both about the same price and I dont wanna spend too much on this rig, any help would be appreciated.

Dont even consider the MX. THey are not the best cards. If you are going to pick between the two u should pick the Radeon 9000. You may also want to check out the Radeon 8500 or 8500LE after the prices drop when the 9700 Pro hits the market. Dont be confused by the name of the 9000. It many cases the 8500's are better.

in this case u should go for radeon 9000.because it has more features and usu better performance. but you can get a radeon 8500 for about US$10 more. it's a better choice and would last more.
i 'd like to add that, you can chek www.pricewatch.com and find the best prices for the US there.

Ok, thanks guys, appreciate your help. I thought about getting a Geforce 4 4200 but didn`t really think a 1200 Duron would push the Geforce with how much more it costs.

Get the R9000 PRO. The R9000 plain would probably be as good/maybe worse than a GF4 MX460. So if you get a R9000, get the PRO. Also, with built by ATi cards you'll probably get faster RAM and stuff, so overclocking could be in the cards.

Actually the R8500 that everyone is referring to is here:

This would definitely be a good match for your son's rig and at an excellent price to boot. You might also consider the R8500LE 128MB for $120, as more and more games are using more and more texture memory. Get it here:

Newegg is a very reliable company. Not only have I ordered 4 shipments from them and got everything in 3 days, but many others have as well.
