How is it fair to not increase the GPU voltage for a better OC when nvidia's GPU Boost raises the voltage as well? There is a voltage slider in the CCC that lets you still overclock safely, its not really hidden.

I don't how you can recommend the HIS model for European customers their customer support service is to be polite, diabolical!

Tom's should really do some investigating and see just how good the customer care is from the board partners because this is an important aspect for me when buying a card but always gets overlooked by journalists and reviewers.

and who said the GTX 560Ti-448 and GTX 570 were dead.?
looks like they beat the HD 7850 and battle the HD 7870 in every bench.
I think that's interesting and the proof is right there for everyone to see.
minus power consumption over the HD 7870 and HD 7850 but at a lower price currently seems like a win as well (GTX 570 = $250 US)..

just saying.

I don't know where you found that out, the 7850 ghz editions match or beat the 448 and the 7870 runs with the 580, then the heat and noice factor. Fermi is a thing of the past.

I take it that your blind and illiterate because it's obvious you do not see the bench charts
that clearly show the GTX 560Ti-448 to the GTX 580 beating the HD 7850 and battle the HD 7870.
and I stated thart I'm not speaking in power consumption just performance.
you blindsided fanboi..

[citation][nom]scrumworks[/nom]That nvidia turbo boost is a bit cheating and you should turn it off for the test. It's basically same as overclocking and your review sample cards are most likely binned to get much better than average OC.[/citation]

if there were some nvidia cards that lacked turbo,,, id agree with you...however it is a function of the card itself and partly responsible for its good performance,,, would you test drive a suberu sti and ask the dealer to bypass the turbo???

I am happy with my purchase.

XFX 7950 Double D purchased last week @ the egg for $369.99 with a $20 MIR making it only $349.99.

For that price I'd take it any day over a $400 670!

Those audio clips were a GREAT addition to this coverage. Please do that with as many video cards as you can when you test them.
At this performance level, +/- a few FPS really doesn't matter a whole lot (they're ALL well-performing cards), but presenting the noise you may be introducing into your environment lets people hear a difference that will matter, day after day.

Odd. Looking at the charts here, there isn't a single example of the 570 or 560ti-448 hanging closely with the 7870. At best, the 570 is somewhere around 6% behind, it's worse for the 560 and the 580 trades consistently with the 7870. Looking at pricing today, the cheapest 7870 on newegg is $70 cheaper than the cheapest 580 ($309 vs. $379), so that's a no-brainer right there as to which is the better value. Hell, you can get a 7950 for around $20 less than a 580 right now.

This isn't fanboism, it's fact. Mid tier AMD current-gen beats our last gen top-tier Nvidia. It is the better value for maxing out 1080p gameplay, period.

You just missed out on the price drop this weekend. Saturday/Sunday that XFX Double D 7950 dropped to $359.99 then 10% off coupon and $20 rebate making it $304 after rebate/coupon. I was waiting for a 7850 to drop to $200, but I just got that instead...too bad the deal is over now:

At $304 after rebate/coupon, the XFX Double D 7950 was a tremendous value...beats everything else on here in value.

Shall we adress that hardly anyone will care about noise 😱
...
:non: Anyone over the age of 30 (and some under it), not playing in a "dedicated" gaming environment (e.g. Mom's basement, or a private bedroom) will likely care about noise. I didn't say obsess over it, but they will care.

You really just threw up a refurbished price against a new product? Well, by that logic I just got a 7850 for $180 off CL. Wonder what the better deal is now?

Absolutely meaningless. Under what conditions? Ambient temps? Case cooling? Pick a card, any card, and you can make this happen. Cite competent technical reviews please if you would like us to take your arguments seriously. Really, please do. We're interested in the best products out there; clips like this don't support "either side."

Good job HIS and ASUS! Loving my 7850 with ASUS's CUII. Almost all of the designs seem good (except the reference design), but I think the nod goes to HIS for the best design here. "Only" 2 slots (*cough* ASUS *cough*) and the warm air gets blown out of the case!

[citation][nom]recon-uk[/nom]Neither do silly tests in all honesty, everyone gets a different experience from everyone else. It's like me commenting on how a war in africa or iran is when i have never actually been there.Fanboi's are loving the statistics, but fail when contended with real proof.[/citation]

Well, in all honesty, you can find almost anything in Youtube to prove almost any point you want to make, hahaha.

I trust reputable sites (such as Toms) and that gives me the statistical data to say "hey, this card is better for YOU according to what you told us you wanted".

You need to make the distinction between better value overall (given a certain number of factors) and the better value for a single person with certain picky qualities it wants.

In this review they showed that for people looking for a 7850 variant. They never intended the article (as they said in it a couple of times) the best bang for the buck. Different qualities are things you might want to consider as well.

Anyway, don't go overboard, mate. Keep it cool 8)

Aaaand, great article as usual. Though I kinda agree with Jimmy; a lil' more in-depth OC would have been nice as well. The videos though, oh God, so good.

Cheers!

[citation][nom]recon-uk[/nom]Just before you said this, i thought you were reputable.how much is a 7850 GHZ ed?Fastest one i can find:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102984570:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130701Now, we have to take into account GPU IPC, Nvidia is far ahead of AMD with fermi, it takes a bump of 150mhz to outgun a 1300mhz 7850 with one of my 480's.At 900mhz it reaches 7950 performance. Now, 1300mhz on a 7850 is rare (1200-1250 is the limit for 98% of users).570's can hit 900 rather easily.Noise.... 7850's make noise too you know..Power consumption... only thing AMD folk could always try to throw at people, because ofc... consuming less and performing slower is great... The 570 is faster than a 7850, and will OC better, overclocks on Fermi scale amazingly.[/citation]

I don't recall saying a 7850 would beat a 570, just going on techpower's review of the 7850 GHZ it ran with or around, and had some successes over the 560ti 448, it did hold scores well with the GTX 570 overall (and the 6970). The HD 7950 is probably still overpriced but holds scores very well with the GTX 670, at the end of the day it is user preference red or green its not going to matter that significantly.

With AMD and Nvidia dedicated to sequential releases we are likely to be in for a rather dull and uncompetitive GPU market.
