First of, I understand that GTX 970 is way more powerful than the R9. The real question is "should i buy the $300+ GTX 970 now? or should i just get the R9 ($160+) and upgrade it later?"

In theory I can get the R9 now for half the price of GTX 970 and used it for a couple years. If i need to upgrade again in 2 or 3 years, I can just used the $160+ leftover to get another quality gpu.

I guess the simple way to put it is " which one should i get for the best bang for the buck in long term?"

I currently have the HD 6670 and the reason I want to upgrade is to play the Dragon Age Inqusition since my current gpu cant handle it.

Thank you. haven't post here in a long time. excuse me if i post on the wrong thread.

What resolution and refresh rate are you playing at? Is it just for that game? Are you going to be playing any other AAA games such as far cry 4 and gta v when they come out?

If you're just playing 1080p at 60hz and plan on upgrading soon the r9 290 is a sweet deal right now. Only $250 and performs close to the 970. If you want to keep the card for at least 2-3 years and want to max out new games at 60fps I would go for the 970.

Hello,

by your logic you will never have a proper gaming card that would be a pleasure to game on.

If I were you I would get the GTX 970. It's absolutely amazing when comes to price/performance ratio. It will also give you at least some "future-proofing" if such thing can exist in computer hardware. I bet that on the second day you buy the R9 270X you will start itching for upgrade and pull your hair out why you took the "cheap way". Buy the best GPU you can afford now and enjoy it while it's still great.

I wouldn't recommend the 270x. I don't think it will last 3 years and be able to play at 60fps with at least high settings. The 970 is you're best bet. I would check out the Asus, MSI, and gigabyte versions as those seem to be the most popular.

If you don't want to spend the money the r9 290 should last you a good while. It's you're call on which one to get. The 970 and 290 are both good cards with the 970 edging out the 290. I would take a look at some reviews and compare the frame rates against each other and see which one is worth it to you.

Better the graphic card obviously one can enjoy high end games and many more things very smoothly without any hindrance or lagging or any other problem and hence one should not compromise any thing for graphic card.

As i mentioned, in my second post, I dont really care about max out every game to max settings. I just want some quality (a good to very good setting) without breaking the bank. I get your point though, I got the HD 6670 about 18 months ago and now i need to upgrade it. Bumper.
I'm looking into gamer1357's suggestion of R9 290 and comparing it to GTX 970.
