@ 500 you could go with water to cool the things ans still save cash.

The 290 might be the new 670 tho. That was the best band for the buck for a long time.

Anyhow we now have what?:

290x @550
290 @400?
280x @300
270 @200

At the moment, Newegg only has Sapphire and XFX versions of the 290x for sale. You have to go to the product specifications page to see the price of $579.99+shipping.

For those of you who want to purchase this card you need to either select the XFX or Sapphire version of the card on Newegg and click on the product. It will say "Coming Soon" on the product page but will display the price once you click on it.

I wasn't going to purchase this card at the $700 price tag but I have already made the purchase at $580. I am very excited and have also told my friend to purchase the card and he did as well. I cannot wait until this card is delivered to my front porch.

Way to go AMD!

Please Re-review the card's performance when non-reference coolers come out. Seeing this card beat other higher end nvidia cards while only being at 73% is amazing. I expect to see it soar even more past it when the cooling issue is solved.

Why HD7970 are only in 4k tests? It would be interesting to see how it compares to 290X also in lower resolutions.

This is a reference card right? Wait for some good drivers from AMD and good non-reference designs by AMD partners and this will blow its competitors with price/performance ratio.

AMD/Nvidia: for the love of classic games, please focus even 1% of your efforts to release an "ultra-compatible" gaming card, so we can finally let go of our aging legacy computers which are taking up so much space just to be able to run some old games that run like crap on your billion-transistor cards but which run just fine on a Win7 laptop with integrated intel graphics ...
