What RX 5xx cards are the RX 5xxx series replacing? In other words, am I suppose to think of the RX 5500 XT as the replacement to the RX 550? The RX 5600 XT as the replacement to the RX 560? ...and so on?

Thank you. Wow! The slow RX 550 isn't anything like the RX 5500. Not in the same ball park.5500 to 550, 5600 to 560, 5700 to 570
They're performance difference is so great. That's why I was wondering. Not really. At least, I never think of them that way. I figure what performance category they are in, based on the results of testing at various resolutions, and go from there.
No. Not the same. But The jump from the 400 series to the 500 series wasn't anywhere close to this. Same with Nvidia and their 1000 series to their 1600 series.because it replace the older slower one.
you think they should have performance the same?
That's because @rgd1101's post only compares relative positioning within their respective product stacks. The Navi product stack (RX5000 series) is far superior to the Polaris product stack (RX500); or RDNA superior to GCN to use the architecture reference.Thank you. Wow! right now AMD still does not have true replacement for RX550 and RX560.
Good answer. I was stupidly using past naming conventions as a guide. For example... back when the HD series moved to the RX series, one could kind of relate the RX 570, 580, 590 as a direct upgrade to the HD 77xx, 78xx, 79xx as far as what replaced what. Still had some relationship to the previous naming convention. So, I mistakenly tried to do the same with the 5xx series to the 5xxx series. I get it now.it might be confusing if you try to look what cards will replace what card looking at the naming. but in short it might be like this:
RX5500 = replacing RX570/RX580/RX590 for much lower power consumption
RX5600 = replacing Vega 56 at lower power.
RX5700 = AMD new performance tier that overlap with Vega 64 and faster.
right now AMD still does not have true replacement for RX550 and RX560.
I agree. There still isn't an AMD card that can compete with the GTX 1050 Ti or 1650 at under 75W, is there?Would be pretty nice if a 5500(non-XT) could hit RX570/580 performance levels in a 75W TDP though!
