I have a GA-7N400 Pro2 board that I want to setup Raid 0 with. I have 2
identical hard drives to use. I also have several other DVD, and CD
Drives that I want to install. My problem is that the manuals don't
seem to indicate which IDE connectors to use with this type of
configuration.

What I want to connect:

2 hard drives in raid 0
1 DVD drive
1 CD Writer
1 DVD Writer

Do I put the 2 hard drives on the same cable set as master and slave,
and then use IDE 1 connector?

Can I use IDE 3 and 4 for DVD drives, CD drives?

Any help would be appreciated.

Bj

Are the hard drives SATA or IDE?

From what I am reading you would hook them to IDE3 & 4. The Raid manual
suggests using a separate cable for each for better performance. Look in
your user manual. It explains that those IDE's are controlled by the
gigaraid controler I believe.

I have the same motherboard and the IDE raid is terrible. What I
finally did was buya couple of adapters like the link I gave you here.
They area small circuit board that plug into your IDE drives on one
side and then have serial ATA connections on the other side. I used
these to connect to the Serail ATA on the motherboard and set up a
striped array that way. worked great. Then hook your dvd dive, cd-rw
etc up to the IDE connections. Hope this helps. Steve

If you look at the system block diagram ( page 11) you will see that IDE3
and IDE4 connect to the IT8212 GigaRaid controller. In your case, one drive
on each connector. 80 conductor 40 pin cables. That is the place for the
RAID array.
The GigaRAID Function Users Manual talk about the set up.. A stripe size of
64k is generally used..

I use a pair Diamond MAX 8's on the GigaRaid controller and it is fast and
reliable. In fact the RAPTOR SATA array is only 8% faster in sequential read
tests.

good luck,
JPS
