I have a HP ENVY 15-j109tx laptop with Windows 8.1 pre-installed and Ralink RT3290 b/g/n wireless adapter. The router is D-Link DIR-600l. The problem is that my laptop always connects to the router with g mode as shown in the picture.

As a result I am limited to a speed of 54 mbps. In fact it becomes as less as 6 mbps sometimes.

I tried to change the wireless mode in the adapter's advanced settings, but there is no such option.

All other devices that I use connects with n mode. (A laptop and 3 smartphones)

What do I do so that my laptop connects with n mode?

Solution
Try downloading newest driver.

Make sure that you are using AES encryption and not TKIP.
TKIP will force it to be wireless G

Did you just get the laptop, just change the router, what is the backstory?
Oh thanks! Changing it to AES encryption worked. The router still gives me low signal (sometimes 12%) and it often reboots on high load. The problem is I think with its range since my mobile also receives low signal but my brothers laptop upstairs always receives high signal (~50%).

I have already ordered an ASUS RT-n14u. Do you have any opinions about it?

Router is not one that we have in the USA and so I have no knowledge on it.
ASUS makes decent products, but I dont recomend buying bargin line products (dont know if that router is or not, just saying in general).

If you are needing range, I would have suggested a router that is higher power with external antennas though.
