Hi all,

Im running a X58A-UD3R R2.0 motherboard with an 8 x Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz

My primary use for this is running Proxmox Hypervisor at home for all my services ie Frigate, Plex, open media server etc

I want to max this out with RAM and putting it out there to anyone who can advise what the best solution/purchase would be?

Currently I have 5 x 4GB DDR3-1333 sticks of RAM for a total of 20GB.

Can I load this up with 6 x 8GB sticks of RAM for a total of 48GB like this ?

The most i ever ran was 6x4GB sticks in my X58 build. Back when those boards came out 1 and 2GB sticks were common and running 12GB of ram you were balling.

When i first got my build i ran 3x2GB mushkin ram, later on i added another kit for 12GB of ram. 5 years down the road i swapped out my 950 to a x 5690 but would not allow the ram to run over 1333MHz so i switched to a 980x and upgraded to 6x4GB 1600MHz sticks, i never tried a 8GB stick in the board.

A quick google search and some people were saying they were running 3x8GB for 24GB so i would say you could do 48GB but you might have to lower speeds, loosen timings, and play with voltages to make it stable.
