Apu's use up to around 2gb of system ram as vram. I'm not sure more than 2gb can be allocated as vram but if you have 8gb of system ram with 2gb allocated to the apu as vram, the rest of your system will be operating with 6gb of ram.
It's not near as critical as if someone were trying to use an apu on a budget with only 4gb of ram. While 4gb would work for a fair number of games, if that gets split with the apu that 4gb system just became a 2gb system and it will be a severe performance hit.
The sweet spot for speed is around 2133-2400mhz ram before the performance reaches a point of diminishing returns.
