so I have a ryzen 3 1200 with an Asrock b450m rev4.0 ii recently bought 16gb 2x8gb corsair 3000mhz ram sticks.
my friend told me to go to bios and overclock or Xmp it to 3000mhz is that safe am I technically overclocking my ram or am I just making the ram run at its default speed of 3000mhz I'm not much of an overclocker. I used the XMP profile one it said 3000mhz. is it safe?

Solution
it is safe. the XMP profiles are there for a reason and the motherboard maker put them there.
you are allowing the RAM to work at its rated speed. the overclock is technically happening on the memory controller embedded in the CPU. ryzen loves it the bandwidth. my 1500x is purring along with 3000 ram using the XMP.

I am currently using 3000mhz rn to type this so that whats what got me to post this.

I have the asrock b450m hdv rev4.0 bios 3.20

Honestly at 3000mhz it runs fine I feel lie the black screen was a gpu issue right? I've run it speeds 2133 both speeds seem to run fine I've set it 3000mhz because I would like the speeds that I paid for you know?
