Why does my Ram clock slower with the dual channel (2) gb. Than having the same matched pair by itself (1)gb. My mobo is setup for dual channel. this is also benched on sisandra, and everrest.

Well, I don't have a 64bit CPU. But IIRC, the ram kicks back to PC2700 if it's 2 gigs or 4 sticks. This has to do with the CPU as the memory controller is on it.

Might find it's running at 2T command rate instead of 1T also.

The newer cores are supposed to address this limitation.

So in the bios change this option? I do see that it's all clocked on auto. obviously I really don't know what to set each parameter to. Maybe a list of typical setting, or link of where I can view some? Thanks so much. I didn't realize the limitation that exists.

How many sticks of RAM are installed?

BTW I asked this in your other thread on the same topic...

I have 4 sticks (matched pairs)

Then what Crash said in you rother post is absolutely correct - as always.

Yes, but if he got a computer to do some useful and fun stuff, he probably wont notice. If he got a computer to run stupid benchmark program, he will see a difference in number.

Benchmark program can give an actual feel about the computer performance, but they are just doing that.. putting number on a graph.. In real life, HDD, users, apps, ..., all that can make all the benchmark wrong. If you get a computer, let say, for video encoding, and base your choice on a benchmark, then your computer could be way off, because you may have a different apps, different HDD, stuff running and multitasking that could have been better performed by another CPU on another board..

Same for RAM. Your RAM might be running slower in benchmark, but in real life, it wont affect the way task are performed as there is so many variable to influence the time it will take. so, running 1T instead of 2T can shave of 10 second at the end of a day, but those 10 seconds can easily be wasted by having a slow HDD or browsing the web while your computer do its work.

In other word, why caring about so small value? It wont affect your normal day.. too many will! only the benchmarks apps.

I only use my comp for computer gaming, and nothing else. I use benchmarks to see how my system is setup, and to configure for optimum performance. That's why I've been asking questions on my components to learn how they work. From just asking questions that didn't relate to my latest find....I was able to learn that my dual channel ram wasn't set for dual at all! So I have set the bios so that it is now in dual channel mode. It helps to tweak because you wouldn't learn from making no mistakes now would you. Getting information from the web is a case by case. Everything that I have read seems to be much different than what I see. Things I'm told to do never works the same for me. I'm not computer illiterate. Just learning the tricks of the trade. The benchmarking is a great tool to see what affects your computer in whichever way you tune it.
