ECC is server/workstation oriented period and unregistered can work on certain desktop platforms, but registered cannot.
Oh, but I am going to be putting into a AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, I have read they can take ECC?

and if so... what about their speeds to normal un ECC RAM?

ECC DRAM is always going to adhere to JEDEC specifications and the highest DDR4 is 3200/CL22.

Standard DIMMs will be available at much higher transfer rates with lower latencies. Unless you have a reason to get ECC DIMMs it's typically not a good idea as your system performance will be lower.
