I have a gigabyte z87x-d3h mobo. Its currently got 2/4 ram spots filled. I took apart an old computer and found 2 more sticks of 4gb ram. Figured i may aswell get the old ram in there if the spots are unused.

The new ram is g.skill ripjaws.

Can i just turn my current pc off, insert new ram, turn back on and go? Or is there going to be some painful bios etc etc etc...

I don't really know much of anything.

2) current mobo w/ old ram installed: http://i.imgur.com/pNS68T9.jpg

ps: why have they used slots 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 2 for the current ram???

Solution
Try the 8GB sticks in slots 1-3 and the 4GB into 2-4, and let us know what happens along with the model #s of the DRAM, then we can figure what adjustments are needed to run them at their optimal or what may be needed to try and get them to play nice

Its how they have to be in dual channel.

Turn the power off, insert ram, turn it on and see if it works 😛

Sometimes you might get BSOD but other times you won't. do you know what speed your current ram is? You may have to go into the BIOS to match the speeds, someone with more knowledge than me may know.

the old ram is 1.5v
it is not close to the same speed. the old ram is 16gb (2 sticks, both 16gb) and the new ram is 4gb (2 sticks both 4gb)
worth it to try or not really?
