Ram Memory, I need urgent help

I bought a brand new laptop Toshiba Satellite L50 - A -111, which came with DDR3 1600mhz 4gb ram as you can see here: http://www.toshiba.pt/laptops/satellite/satellite-l50-a/satellite-l50-a-111/.

Tough when i read it with Speccy piriform software it says:

And this comes across another question, i bought a 4gb 1600mhz ram module Kingston but when i install it the laptop wont boot, i tried to put it in slot 1 also instead alone and it woudnt boot. The manufactured ram is from samsung and the one i bought from kingston.


Please help.

DDR3-1600 ram doesn't actually run at 1600 MHz - it runs at 800 MHz and performs two transfers per clock. The 1600 comes from the MT/s ((Mega or Million) Transfers per second)

As far as the Kingston RAM, did you check the voltage? If it requires 1.65V but your laptop only gives it 1.5V, that might prevent it from booting.

Thank you for your reply. I discovered the first issue by using the cpu z benchmark software. The kingston ram module is 1.5v, what might be the priblem then?

The Kingston ram could be DOA - even the top brands aren't completely immune to that. However, first could you please link the exact model of Kingston RAM you bought? There might be some other detail that's causing incompatibility.

I think the issue here is the voltage. Your laptop supports DDR3L SODIMM memory, where 'L' stands for Low voltage which is 1.35v. Check the memory of the samsung memory or let me know the part number of the memory.

# Update your BIOS (just saying, it will benefit in some way).
# Check if the memory works okay after the BIOS upgrade.
# If 'Yes' that's great else try manually setting the voltage of the memory to 1.35v (I'm not sure if that's a good idea) but give it a shot and see if it boots.
# Else return the memory and ask for 1.35v memory.

Thank you to both of you for your replies to thread. Mauveclaude the Kingston memmory is RAM KINGSTON SODIMM DDR3 - 4GB - 1600MHz CL11 - SR X8 - PC3-12800 and the one is the PC is a Samsung PC3-12800 it says 1.28 voltage is each of the four cores in cpu z software.

Legohouse i can update the bios safetly though toshiba website, right? Thank you.

Yes, you can update the BIOS through Toshiba. To install it safely follow the instructions provided in your system manual. In your manual see if there is a way to manually set the voltage, if there is one then follow the instructions and undervolt it to 1.35v. If that doesn't help then try getting any of the memory which I recommended or something similar.
