I am thinking about buying the exact same type of ram as I currently have, 2x4gb ddr 1600mhz, but instead it would be 2x8gb. It is literally the same but with different sizes. Would it work if I added the 2x8gb to my already setup 2x4gb?

Solution
It could, or it might not. Mixing RAM is always a gamble, even on identical kits bought on the same day.
For best results you should only use RAM sold in kits, and I personally wouldnt use a 24GB setup anyway.

Maybably.

QVLs only cover the exact configuration tested by the motherboard/DIMM manufacturer, anything else is mileage-may-vary so make sure you get your DIMMs from a place that will take them back if necessary. Only way to know for certain is to try it. If you are unlucky, you may still be able to get it to work, albeit at some combination of lower memory clock, slower timings and possibly a slight memory voltage bump.
