Question RAM problems but only during cold start up or restart ?

I built a AMD rig

Ryzen 7800x3d
MSI X670E
G-skill Trident 6000mhz ram (2 sticks 16 gb = 32 total)

The pc runs ok in windows and no problems in games. I get BSOD at cold startup or restarts when Expo (1) is on in the bios or when I fiddle around with NZXT cam.
When I turn Expo off after a BSOD the RAM still runs at 6000mhz and the pc goes to windows.
So when I turn Expo on the pc is not stable during startup.

Can anybody help me with this? What is the problem? I stopped using NZXT cam during startup and that helped a lot, but the pc is still not stable during startup.

Thanks.

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD
  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Do you have latest BIOS on motherboard?

what are full specs?

Hi Colif,

Thanks. I am not allowed (by this forum) to post the link to the minidump. Is there a way to give you the link?

The BSOD that I got today was: APC Index Mismatch
A few days ago I got the BSOD: CLFS.sys ..page fault in non paged area.

This is my system.

AMD Ryzen 7800X3D
MSI X670E carbon wifi (newest AMI BIOS 7D70v1820 --23-08-14-------9.24 MB) There is a beta bios but I do not want to use it at this moment.
G-skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB DDR 5- 6000mhz AMD EXPO 2x 16GB (CL30-38-96 1.35v) bank 2 & 4
1x Samsung 980 Pro M.2 1GB
1x WD Black SN850X M.2 1GB
1x WD Black SN770 M.2 2GB
Geforce RTX 4070 Inno3d (latest driver 546.01)
Corsair RM850X power supply
NZXT Kraken Elite 240 AIO liquid cooler

what website did you upload it to? it should let you put links to most sites

By the way... Can the BSOD caused by the problem I have with the driver of the 7800X3D. I assume this CPU has integrated graphics but the driver won't install a proper driver. Yesterday it worked for a brief moment and the microsoft basic display adapter turned into a Radeon driver in the device manager besides my RTX4070 driver. after the restart I got a BSOD critical error. After the reset I got message that I changed my CPU which i did not. The pc did not go to windows ans after a hard reset I had some trouble to get to windows. The Radeon driver I installed was gone and the microsoft basic display adapter was in the device manager again besides my RTX4070.
I think I will restart in safe mode and check out device manager. Maybe it is a mess. do you have any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

I would think that could be cause.

did you get the driver from https://www.amd.com/en/support/apu/amd-ryzen-processors/amd-ryzen-7-processors/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d

I know 7000 series have igpu but I don't know if installing drivers is necessary. Not if you have an actual GPU. I think its just there in case you need it.

Hi Colif,

I tried the install of the Radeon driver again this morning. Before I did that I disabled Expo in the bios. I extracted the driver in a map. After that I went into device maneger and updated the microsoft basic display adapter with the driver I extracted in the map. Everything went fine. After restart the pc went to windows and it seems Ok. I see a AMD Radeon Graphics besides my RTX4070.
I think EXPO is causing some instability issues during startup and booting. It is strange that I can use Expo and memory at 6000mhz when I am in windows. Playing CS2 game is also fine. so I believe the pc is capabel of using expo but something is going wrong during startup or a cold boot.

ok. I keep that in mind. Thanks. By the way; my memory is running at 6000mhz at this moment but expo is disabled in the bios (Restarts windows are fine). Is this a problem that in Z-CPU the memory page gives other values then SPD (expo) page? In other words is my memory running at 6000mhz without the expo settings?

i think that shows its running at 6000 or close.
2997.7mhz x 2 is close enough to 6k, its never exact

mine only runs at 1571.6 but shows as 3200

you not running expo as the timings are different. you have higher latency without it cl 50 compared to 30.

Hi, Thanks. I wonder if you advice me to disable Expo or would u search further and try to use Expo as soon as new bios will be available. The performance difference won't be that big looking at the latency?
