RAM Speed is at 1066Mhz, but my MOBO can support up to 1600Mhz?

Hello,

I recently bought 2x4GB DDR3 Ram sticks, that have a speed of , I believe 2xxxMhz ( I can't remember exactly ) . My motherboard can support only RAM up to 1600Mhz, and that's fine. But, when I go to my BIOS, or I use CPU-Z, it shows that RAM is working at 1033Mhz, and that I can overclock it up to 1333Mhz.

What's the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Check your MOBO's manual and look for "XMP" profiles. They are default settings selected in the bios based on your RAM that will set the timing and clock speeds at the correct settings for your RAM.

Hi, thanks for the response , this is what I found :

Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) 1.3 / 1.2 with Intel® Ivy Bridge CPU

I don't really know what that means , but is there any way to clock it at 1600Mhz ?

Please see page 34 - 35 of your manual. It should be under oc settings "DRAM Timing Coniguration
Load XMP Setting
Use this to load XMP setting. Coniguration options: [Auto], [Default], [Proile
1] and [Proile 2]. The default value is [Auto].
DRAM Frequency
If [Auto] is selected, the motherboard will detect the memory module(s)
inserted and assign the appropriate frequency automatically."

If your DRAM is 2xxx as you say XMP won't work as the mobo only allows up to 1600 and the XMP profiles will be for 2xxx, try setting the DRAM manually to 1600, 9-9-9-26, 1.5 and try - if still problems let us know the CPU and model #(S) of the DRAM and can offer prob better settings

Thanks everyone, I'll try what you all suggested :

eldragon0 - The pages 34 and 35 are on French. Yeah, the RAM is set to [Auto] in BIOS, at 1066Mhz.
i7Baby - Looked all over the manual and the BIOS, can't find XMP anywhere. Will have another look.
Tradesman1 - Yeah DRAM is 2xxxMhz , I'll try what you suggested.

What exactly does 9-9-9-26, 1.5 mean , and where do I set it ?
Also, I can't overclock the RAM manually to 1600Mhz, the max is 1333Mhz.

Thanks

Thanks, I'll try to set that , and if that doesn't work, I'll probably buy new RAM.

I bought these 2x4GB 2133Mhz (yeah, that's the "clock") dirt cheap, and I was all like "why not?", but if the method above doesn't work, I'll sell it, and buy new 1600Mhz RAM.

Thanks everyone for the nice responses, I'll now close the thread.
Thanks again.

Cheerz.
