Ram speed question

I have some stock generic ram 2x 8gb 1200mhz dell brand ram currently.

I want another 2x 8gb sticks but at 3000mhz.

Would that be possible or do they all have to be at the same speed?

They will have to run at the same speed, and they will default to the slower speed of the two.

What are you using this system for?
What are your complete system specs?

MSI Z270 Gaming Plus

Would I notice a noticeable improvement going from 16GB 1200MHZ to 16GB 3000MHZ?

Well first, you don't have 1200MHz RAM, it's Double-Data Rate is 2400MHz. DDR4 comes in 2133 and up, so you wouldn't call it 1200MHz. You have DDR4 2400.

I don't think you will see a worthwhile gain from 3000MHz RAM over your 2400MHz RAM.

What is your monitor resolution and refresh rate? What games are you not seeing desired performance?

3440*1440 120HZ Monitor.

I mostly play World of Warcraft and other Blizzard games.

I just got this graphics card thinking i'd notice a big jump in performance but i'm around 40FPS with everything maxed out at 3440x1440 which was the same FPS I was getting with my 1070.

If it's not RAM holding my back only thing I can think of is the CPU.

40fps in WoW doesn't sound right with your system. Have you checked CPU and GPU temps? Run in-game on-screen display to monitor hardware usage and temps. Tell me what you find.
