RAM upgrade causing lag, once reverted lag continues though

I decided to begin upgrading my system the other day, starting with RAM, I already have 2x4gb G-Skill Rip Jaw x ddr3 1600 cards in, and decided to just double that, so I put them all in as I only have 4 DIMM slots on my motherboard, and there is no option for 3 RAM cards only.

Everything started up fine as normal, except i had forgotten my pc was on hibernate when i unplugged it to put the cards in, when i booted it up it came up with 'a fatal error occurred when in hibernation, all unsaved data will be lost etc etc' but it was normal after that.
The computer was registering that there was 16gb of ram, except an unusaully large amount was cached, i think it was around 5.6gb. When i started CSGO up to see if eerything was running fine i played for a bout 10 minutes on 250+ fps as usual, then after 10 minutes it dropped down to 25fps and wouldnt go up. I tested several games, Bioshock Infinite, same thing, Borderlands 2, same thing. and when i got back into CSGO it went straight into lagging. I tried using the ram cards 2 by 2 and even tried a configuration with 3, which put CSGO up to 55-65 fps constantly, but other games still lagged too much. I got sick of it and reverted to my 2 old G-Skills but even now everything is still lagging after 10mins gametime, bootup is normal. Im really confused as to what is happening. I have the latest graphics drivers.
My specs are as follows;

CPU - Intel Core i5 2500k 3.3hz

Motherboard - MSI X58A-GD45 Intel x58 1366pin USB3 DDR3

PSU - Antec HCG-900 High Current Gamer

GFX - Gigabyte 2GB 6970 PCI-E VGA

Hard Drive - WD 3.5" Black 1TB WD1002FAEX SATA3 7200rpm

RAM - G-Skill Rip Jaw X 2x4gb 1.50v 1600 (plus the ones that i dont have in atm)

Thank you for taking your time, Sam

Hi

not relevent to your problems but how did you fit a i5 2500k cpu (LGA 1155) into a LGA1366 Socket motherboard
apparently the MSI X58A-GD45 has 6 DDR-3 sockets not 4 and would have support for 3 or 6 ddr-3 dimms
so probably motherboard model is wrong.

were the new dimms exactly the same mode and specifcationl as previous ones?
if overclocking ram remove over clock, run at ddr3 1600 not higher speeds

I would not expect much improvement in most games in going from 8GB to 16GB of ram

I would run memtest86 on ram and see if all working .

If all RAM is OK you may need to go back to 8GB and see if you can find a restore point before the problems occurred. If not a re install of Windows may be required.

Was mains power completely disconnected while changing the ram?
As it is possible removing ram while power is still present has damaged the motherboard

Hybernation implies ram state saved to a file on hard drive
while sleep implies motherboard in a low power sleep state with ram contents kept intact

sorry got the motherboard wrong, that was from an old list, mine is a asus gene z maximus 4. and mains was completely disconnected, but maybe i plugged in the ram too fast? there could have still been power going through the pc but there were no lights at all. But because i get heavy audio distortion and lag 10 minutes in i think i have either fried my motherboard or gpu. im going to take it into a repair shop to see if they can pinpoint it as i have no working usb's or cd's lying around to run memtest from, thanks for the help though
