Can anyone recommend a RAM I could put in my dell optiplex 760 as I got a new PC and I want tom mess around with what's in the optiplex. Also any other component upgrades maybe even using those components and more in a new case... Thanks 🙂

I believe its the medium sized one it was refurb let me get specs.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Dell
Optiplex 760
X86-Based PC
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.5GHz , 293Mhz , 2 Core(s) , 2 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version / Date: Dell Inc, A15, 21/08/12
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00GB

I dont know the website its from but I can try and find what PSU it is.
Would it be possible to use components from it and others I can buy and chuck it all in a new case? Or just upgrade what its already got??

the mobo won't fit in a standard case as it's BTX (b for backwards). standard PSU is 275w, iirc.
memory, 4GB of 800mhz ddr2, kingston usually works.
CPU, it'll take a 1333Mhz FSB processor, E8400s are cheap, Q6600s are resonable but the faster ones, no so much.

Using PC parts picker can you put together what the computer would have with upgrades. So using specs I gave you. That would!d be a lot of help.

These sorts of things.

The Q may be too much power.

Will the current PSU be adequate? And should I risk the quad?

Ik.

Using some parts from optiplex and new parts from online could I make a gaming setup?

yes, but you won't achieve high quality graphics.
I just had to double check, i confuse myself sometimes, the 760 will take 2GB per slot for a total of 8GB, unless it's the USFF model, which is only good for stopping the door from slamming shut 😉

I thought I only have 2 ram slots? Anyway so I need a case and then some components. I can use some stuff from optiplex though.

So overall with new parts what's the best I can bet out of this PC.

The PSU may be adequate for a Q CPU, but combine that with the age, and the extra 60W for the GPU, I'd want to be careful.

If you have a tower case, you can add a GPU to it and keep that case, I think. Can you post a photo of your system so we know exactly which one it is?

Inside system or outside?

Mines the desktop version the second biggest. 1 above the USF .

Damn its so hard to tell! On second glance it could be the sff as then right grill is longer than the left.

After looking at second PDF its defiantly the desktop 1 above the sff. 🙂
