Hello guys,

So my brother have birthday soon and because I have limited funds at the moment I have decided to buy him a little bit more ram for his computer because simply 2GB for the current games and tasks is not enough any more. This are the specs:

Athlon II x2 250 3.0 Ghz
Asus M4A88T-M
2GB Ram
Radeon R7 260 GDDR5 1GB VRam

Is this Ram compatible for his build ? --> Link.
Is it still worth putting AMD Phenom II x4 in this computer ? (I will have get a chance of getting it for free in a couple of days, perfectly working and all).

Thank You.

The phenom is still a good processor for every day tasks and some gaming. So that upgrade is definetly worth it and a upgrade to 8gb ram. And yes that ram will work fine. RAM and CPU upgrade will make a major difference. The mobo though only supports 1333mhz ram so it will underclock the 1600mhz kingston to 1333mhz. It will still work fine and you won't notice a difference in speeds.

Not absolutely positive but I don't believe the DRAM is compatible, the Fury uses high density memory chips and also operates off PnP (PnP wasn't available back when this mobo was released. I'd look at the GSkill NT series of DRAM which uses the low density memory chips

Can you explain more or throw some links here for a cheap ram from Amazon/Ebay UK ? I'm rather confused what you are talking about ...

Would this ram do it ?

Edit: I have done some research and apparently all of the listed Ram's are compatible with my brother Motheboard but I don't know which one to chose since I'm soo confused ...

HyperX FURY Series 8GB DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module - Red
Crucial CT102464BA160B DDR3 240 Pin 1.5V PC3-1600 CL11 Unbuffered UDIMM Memory Module - 8 GB
Crucial BLS4G3D1609DS1S00CEU Sport 4GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800 Memory Module
HyperX FURY Series 4GB DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module - White
HyperX FURY Series 8GB DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module - Black
Crucial CT2KIT25664BA160B 4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 240 Pin 1.35V/1.5V PC3-12800 CL11 Unbuffered UDIMM Memory Module Kit
HyperX FURY Series 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module - Blue
Kingston KVR16N11S8K2/8 RAM 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL11 DIMM Kit (2 x 4 GB) 240-Pin, 1.5 V

So any of the above I can use in the current motherboard ? I'm so surprised about the price tag since for the 1x4 GB I can get 1x8 GB Ram such as HyperX FURY, why is it so expensive ? 😵

Anyway, what would happen if I would buy and use HyperX FURY Series 8GB DDR3 1600MHz CL10 DIMM Ram ? It won't fit, the performance will be crap or what will happen to be specific here ?

The processor I got is AMD Phenom x3 8550 not the x4 mentioned earlier. I was wondering if I should get a new motherboard with a 8 GB Ram instead and how much it would cost ? I think that in the price of the 8 GB Ram for the current Motherboard I could get some good new Motherboard plus throw a bit more cash for 8 GB Ram and it would come out better than just upgrading a ram itself ? What do you think ?

P.S What I see is that the only good part in this PC is a Graphic Card.
