Recently I upgraded to 16gb(2x8) ddr3 1600mhz after a looong time using 2x4(8gb). I finally thought I could disable paging file so I did ,before when I had 8gb of ram I've put paging file on my ssd. Now with the 16gb of ram I disabled paging file but when I hit around 10gb of ram usage my system acted weird , started closing chrome tabs , crashing my game , getting "memory not enough" errors and what not... I went back and enabled paging file and things started to look better , I could hit around 12.5k gigs of ram usage before my system would act weird again and crash games and browsing tabs...

my specs:
gpu: rx 570 4gb
cpu: i7 3770
mobo: ga h61m ds2
ram: 2x8gb 1600mhz crucial
ssd: kingston A400 120gb (only windows on it) (50gb free space)
hdd: 7200rpm 500gb (200gb free space)
psu:Thermaltake Smart RGB, 80+ 500W

Am I doing something wrong or what's going on? I though now I have more than enough ram to open all kind of stuff in the background , even two games at a time but apparently I can't without crashing.

Windows seems to like having a paging file. I set a custom static file with min and max at 1024MB and have it on a storage drive and it never gets used. You might want to use a larger amount like 4096MB custom upper and lower on your HDD. If that slows you down by being used then move it to the SSD.

I read somewhere that it's recommended to put a fixed paging file also the same amount on minim and maxim. Like the amount of ram you have you multiply by 1.5. In my case it's 1024 x 16 = 16384 // 16384 x 1.5 = 24576

I've put 24576 as min and max paging file but this time on my HDD , no on my SSD cause I only have 50gb free space on ssd. So far I hit around 14gb usage and stuff didn't go weird like before.

I'll leave it like this , I managed to hit 15.5gb of ram usage without anything acting weird, crashing or lagging. I still have 186gb free space on my hdd so it's fine.
