Hi guys, i have a weird issue with ram or maybe it isn't even the ram. It is my friends pc so i don't have all the specs right now, here is the specs i know of.
4th gen i7 (could be 4770)
16gig gskill ram 1866mhz ddr3
850W psu (can't remember brand)
1T WD hdd
MSI mobo (can't remember model)
Sometimes when you switch the pc on it comes on but screen doesn't. Then when you switch ram dimm slots, it works for a day or two, then black screen again. Switch back to previous dimm slots, then the pc works again.
Also, when the screen doesn't come on, it's like all the lights and fans are dimmed and slow, but after switching dimm slots, everything works as it should.
Thanx in advance for any advice.

Solution
does he use integrated graphics or has it got a GPU?
no GPU might explain why ram makes any difference on graphics, as integrated would use the ram.

you could test the ram,
Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the errors. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors. Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it

also, many motherboards have slots they require you to use 2 sticks in, and if you use another combo you can get weird results, so that could explain the different reactions you get.

Sorry, forgot to mention the gpu, which is a GTX1050ti. The ram is an identical pair of 8gig gskill sniper. And the mobo has 4 dimm slots. Thanx, i forgot about memtest, i'll give it a go and see if any errors pops up
