Hi everybody,
I have a somewhat new build. You can read my last BSOD escapade here on this thread, but now things are getting worse again.
For starters, my build:
MOBO: ASUS ROG Z490-E
CPU: i9-10900k
GPU: RTX 3070
RAM: HyperX Predator 128GB 3600MHz DDR4 CL18 DIMM (Kit of 4) XMP HX436C18PB3K4/128, Black
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 (Platinum)
STORAGE: A bunch of SAMSUNG 850 EVO’s, 500gb each (boot drive included). Shizuku Crystaldisk said the C drive is at 97% health. It’s my oldest drive, likely.
Since I’ve built this PC, I have had on and off BSODs. Sometimes I’ll go like three months at a time with none. Then, boom, another chain of them.
I did a MemTest with flying colors at the time of the thread I linked above. Almost certain it was in XMP mode. Did a BIOS update last month because I was running into only one monitor out of two connecting to my GPU. That ended up not being a BIOS thing, but I solved the multi monitor issue.
Played some games just fine. Then randomly, overnight, I got more BSODs. I thought maybe it was time for a new PSU, as mine was approaching 6 years. So, I installed a new PSU (the one listed above in my build). Turned it on, ran Prime95 Blend. No hiccups. Turned it off and on again. Prime95 Blend = BSOD.
Tried running MemTest (with XMP enabled). Thousands of errors. It aborted itself.
Currently running MemTest WITHOUT XMP and I’m nearly through 1 pass with 0 errors. Going to let all 4 run without XMP to see if any RAM errors pop up without XMP.
If I get 4 passes without XMP…what then? Could this be a BIOS update issue? I poked around online and saw that the Z490-E is commonly problematic with XMP, it seems. While I have a 10900k and a 3070 RTX, I’d think that my PSU would provide enough power to support 128gb of RAM (which is on the MOBO’s QVL).
There have been Windows 10 updates recently. Could this be related? What I find so annoying is that things go smoothly for a while then they suddenly just…..don’t.
Any bits of advice welcome! Thank you!
