I've been using an old AMD phenom 2 X4 955 BE for about 2 years now and got given a CPU by a friend(Thought it might be better, it is). It's an AMD FX-4300, and after installing it my RAM doesn't run in dual channel mode anymore, both DIMMs are detected and it sees the full 8 gigs but only runs in single channel. I've tried switching the slot the RAM was in and no change. I've tried 1 DIMM at a time both work fine and it boots like normal, but when I add the second one it takes a couple seconds longer to boot and stays in single channel mode. Did I miss something?

EDIT - There's a 2gb version of my RAM on the supported list DDR3 1333 2GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G, where as mine is DDR3 1333 4GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G, looks like same serial number with the only change being the size at the end. But if its not on the list of supported RAM why would it work for 2 years with the old CPU.

Do i just give up and buy new RAM.

What bios version is the motherboard running? The latest one on the ASRock's website is 2.80 and it says it improves DRAM compatibility. That might fix it, other than that I'm not sure. The motherboard says it supports that processor.

Thank you for the suggestion, i updated the bios to the latest version from the website and no change so far. 🙁

Try resetting the BIOS/CMOS. You installed a new CPU, but maybe the BIOS is still using some old parameters from your previous CPU. Resetting the BIOS may fix this. Also you could try playing with the RAM & northbridge/memory controller voltage. Your new CPU is different and it may need a small increase in various voltage settings that affect the memory.

I reset BIOS and cleared CMOS, had a little play with some of the voltages on the DRAM with no change. When I look at CPU-Z and task manager they both recognize all 8 gigs but in task manager only 4 gigs is available.
