Question RAM

Okay, so, this is probably a stupid question but I am not very familiar with computers, but i'm trying to get more RAM and I know that you need to put both sticks into the same color, but do they have to be the exact same? My computers uses DDR4 ram and I have a pre-built gaming PC with one stick of XPG 8 gigabyte ram. Now, I would just buy another one of those but unfortunately, that company only sells theirs in pairs, and I only need one 8 gigabyte stick. So, would it matter if I bought another stick from a different company? Again, i'm sure this is very stupid but I am unfamiliar with computers and don't wanna waste my money.

2 sticks of DDR4 with the same speed and timings from different brands may work, but mixing ram is really luck.

What is the modle number of your current ram?

You can run www.userbenchmark.com on your PC and it will tell you.

Well that helped a little, but not as much as usual.

Its a 2666mhz 8gb stick at least.

Can you take out the stick and look for a model number.
Might says something like this:
MD4U083618BCDA
or
F4-3200C16D-16GVGB
I really like the way G.skill names ram. The model above clearly tells you it is 3200mhz, 16gb and C16.

Yes, it will work, but using it in combination with your existing stick is hit or miss. There is no way to guarantee it will work, which is why Id try to find another identical stick, which is very hard.

I'm just gonna take the chance and buy the other stick. It is compatible with my motherboard and the other stick of RAM is basically identical other than manufacturer. Wish me luck.
