I Have Just built this rig.

1TB WD Caviar Green



things are going really slow...any ideas/incompatibilties i might not be aware of?

A friend of mine said that i should be increasing the RAM with another 2 g's....is that true?

^Yep, especially if you're running Windows x64 4GB is the minimum.

Q - How much Physical RAM is being used {normally}?

BTW - unless you ADDED more "stuff" a/k/a Apps then you" 1: may have a Virus, 2: may have less than 25% available {free} HDD space. Run MSCONFIG - set Diagnostic - restart - then begin adding ALL Microsoft services from the start-up tab.

Do the following in order:

1. Create a Restore point {back-up your registry}
2. D/L {Malwarebytes Anti-Malware} http://download.cnet.com/malwarebytes-anti-malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
3. D/L {CCleaner} - http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/3000-2086_4-10315544.html

4. Install & Run {full scan} Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
5. Restart

6. Install & Run {Registry Integrity} CCleaner
7. Restart

If still "slow" then -
8. Run MSCONFIG - set Diagnostic - restart - then begin adding ALL Microsoft services + AV Software from the start-up tab
9. {repeat by adding first Services -> NO startups}; finding the "culprit(s)"
10 . {repeat by adding first Startup}; finding the "culprit(s)"

Paging File - Flush the paging file.
11. Change from "...managed" to -> No Paging file
12. Restart
13. Change back to "...managed..."
14. Restart

Maintenance - Defrag "C" {XP}; Windows Vista/7 "should be" automatic.

I looked above: 32-bit OS, RAM usage ~ 50%, Paging file should be ~ smaller.

well, I suspect that Kingston RAM. I had a similar thing with it before.

I am buying another stick today, A-DATA I think!

You should have installed the latest chipset drivers from Asus. Since these boards are new, Windows does not have correct, optimized drivers for them. RAM size of 2 GB is not that bad.

^+1 get the EXACT SAME RAM. 2GB of RAM on an XP 32-bit OS is generally adequate, more won't hurt but won't necessarily help either.

My guess is your system is being bogged down by "junk" running in the background, worst a virus or malware. As a last resort you can always backup you data and reformat the HDD and install a fresh OS + Apps {the ones you need only}.
