If they make LCD cost more to produce, may be this will make other companies to switch from producing LCD to producing OLED sooner 🙂(or not :-( ).

Rambus makes things more expensive for everyone by forcing companies to add costs to their products with out increasing the value of the products.

[citation][nom]kato128[/nom]My biggest question is, who is selling patents to these people? Their rep precedes them so I'd have thought one of the giants would have stepped up to outbid them for this patent.[/citation]

I was thinking the same thing. The patents were only $26 million, that's not too much money for some of the technology giants out there... Maybe the patents weren't all that important...

"tremendous business and technical synergies" Ah... do you feel it?

Yeah, I felt the ooze of stink that comes from rambutt's...er, butt.

Why can't Rambus die like RD-RAM? Remember folks, intel has(had) a stake in Rambus which helped create the memory collapse of 99~2000. Anyone with those P4s paid out the NOSE (4~5x the price of normal SDR back then). The DDR kicked RD-RAM in the butt.

Anyone else feel the synergies?

Oh well, RAMBUS doesn't care how much their shit do-stink, they got the monies to buy dem hoes.

Screw you Rambus, I'm still laughing with the "RDRAM exclusive" roadmaps of Intel and I'm still inspired with the ending of the story, with Intel combining s423 P4's with SDRAM! 😀

Screw you Rambus for blackmailing everybody, for producing actually nothing, for trying to monopolize the market with half-patents. Just Screw you!

[citation][nom]Shadow703793[/nom]Here I though RDRAM killed off Rambus.... lol.[/citation]

No, Rambus killed off RDRAM by charging refusing to work with the likes of Samsung, Sony, etc. I can hardly wait to see what they have in store for the LED industry.

What a business model these assholes have developed. Why bother actually CREATING anything, when you can just buy the rights to tech that everyone is already using, then go around suing everyone for using it. Rambus has done more then any judge or lawyer in this country to point out how broken our copyright & patent system is. There's a special place in hell for them for standing in the way of progress to further their personal wealth and greed.

[citation][nom]demonhorde665[/nom]read the article better , what they patented is LED tech , again a LED is just a LCD that uses led lights for it's back light instead of cathode tubes[/citation]

Well LED is (was) going to be the future of LCD displays. Cheaper to make (not including the licensing fees to Rambust), draws less power, better image quality, no warm up time etc.

[citation][nom]Hatecrime69[/nom]*sigh* well there goes lcd tech..anybody for going back to plasma screens?[/citation]
Plasma screens have always been better. I currently own a Plasma (bought 3 months ago). There is nothing like a good plasma TV. And by good, I mean a 50" Panasonic s1 series for $740 at Sears a few months back (huge sale). Try buying a 50" LCD that beats that plasma under $3k (Never going to happen). So I could care less what happens to LCD. I won't upgrade till I can get a 50" OLED under $2k. Not trying to start a LCD vs Plasma discussion, just saying I don't give a .....

I think RAMBUS is a wonderful company, full of bright, intelligent people that want to see technology flourish with new ideas and ways to make our lives easier to live and generally make the world a nicer place.
Our ultimate aim is to eradicate world hunger, stop all wars, cure all diseases then lead the human race in exploring the galaxy. I love RAMBUS and I think you should too.

Uh... here ya go: Samsung 55" (beat you by 5") LED-LCD. Its 1" thick, weighs almost nothing and its picture currently the best on the market. and this baby sells for $2600. Plasma doesn't touch it.

And besides, plasma is being phased out due to its various issues, heat, severe power usage and gas leakage. Of course any TV tech has their problems.

Hey.. YOU brought up plasma vs LCD, nobody else here said anything about plasma. The article has nothing to do with plasma. Otherwise, enjoy your plasma. Who cares?

Lol, Rambus bought the rights to technology that will be phased out in 5-10 years.

Oh poor Belardo, the 21 year old Best Buy salesman pitching that LED LCD really has you sold huh!? "Plasma doesn't touch it"? - that's sad - bragging about spending $2600 for 55", even sadder. Do you believe that LED LCD technology displays a better picture than any CRT or Plasma ever created as well? I'm not a fan boy of either tech, plasma or lcd, but I have yet to see an LCD tv, regardless of it's backlighting makeup, look better than a plasma when it comes to consumer grade flat panels.

I think it should be made illegal to buy patents just to charge other companies for money, and with no intent on actually implementing them.
