CPU's have very strict and short return policy's, and aren't somethign you should be moving in and out too much, so save that for last.

My guess is that you'll find it's a bad MOBO.

I have same problem too ! After I open to start playing games it jus black n no bios setup watsoever ??? I try all the diagnose all seem working properly ??? I'm using 3 way sli 100w psu 6 gb vendor ram ...? Still no help I jus bought it 1 month old ! Help anyone ? I try swap every pArt still no help ??

I have the same exact problem here. I was wondering how any of you having these symptoms were able to resolve this.

Thank you.

There is a problem with many Asus Rampage III Extreme such as this.
There should have been a recall on these long ago.
To my findings its a cold solder somewhere on the motherboard.
My board was warped a little is how I found out. My board is out of case BTW, no case.
By pressing down a little on each corner it by pass and got into bios.
This worked a few times then I had to do the pressing of the corners again to fix.
So next I decided to put it in a case, in the middle I used a little taller standoff
for all the others at the edges of the board I used shorter standoffs and the
R3E has worked perfect every since.

Sad part is this doesn't work for all R3E motherboards.
I just picked up another R3E online for cheap "arrived yesterday" with this same problem.
I'm still working with it now and I haven't put it into a case as of yet.
I'll post my results once I have tried the taller standoff trick and report back.

Follow Up:
I was able to get this new R3E to working pretty much same as the other but in reverse.
Let me explain a little. My old R3E mainboard is not flat, its warped, high at each end
across the front. With a dip in the middle, kind of like a U shape.

With this new R3E its pretty straight or flush so instead of having to pull down
wards I had to pull up wards.
Picture below shows I used a 4 pin molex connector. It gave the right pressure to get the bios to fully load.

Both my R3E where doing the same as the open post said his was doing.
They would boot to a point but hung at the bios screen and when hitting delete I could not enter the bios.
Now I am able to get into bios to setup everything and boot to the operating system with each.

Maybe this will help someone else facing this same problem that doesn't have a return warranty left to get a replacement.

I have the 1st and older one still in a case and working, so I'm not going to pull it to test if the problem is located in the same corner of the motherboard.
But I have a feeling that the problem is in something located in that area "shown in the picture red box" has a cold solder problem.

Excuse the bad photo, just something to give you a clearer idea what I'm talking about.

Edit: on the older in case R3E I used a single taller standoff right in the middle of the board/case.
Using only the outer corners of the board's holes with the shorter standoff's. 5 standoffs used.

Edit:2 As for the other R3E I just got I'm sure using a taller standoff in the corner marked in red and shorter
ones threw out the rest of the board placement would yeld a working R3E in a case setup.

At this point I haven't looked closer, but am thinking the problem is in the BIOS switch used to change
from one BIOS chip to the other. I'll try to have a closer look at that switch. If I find anything I'll report back.
As most already know that owens the R3E, it has dual selectable BIOS chips on board and you use the little
red switch shown in the red box in that corner to switch between each.

ive had this problem. after much research i found the real problem. many others have had this issue and its easy to fix. this motherboard is built with a failed sound card. as long as the chip is active the post will lock on it cause it cant get it to start. reseat your cpu which will force boot the bios and disable onboard audio. i did it. smooth boot ever since.

This is not true in all cases. I have two R3E motherboards and have always had the sound disabled since day one.
Both of my R3E are bench setups for Folding@Home, no case or no need for sound, all they do is fold.
What you say could be some peoples problem, but not a solution for everyone.

Doesn't matter if on-board sound is enabled or disabled, I still have to flex my boards in some small amount
to get into the bios or to fully boot to the OS. So something is not making full contact at all times.
Most likely a cold solder from the factory.
Since there both working so well I haven't taking the time to look into the possible cause or permanent fix.
Hopefully I can find time this week to take a closer look. If I find the problem I'll report back.

Hi man, I try your bios and it work, can get Access to the bios now. The only problema I have is I can't change the cpu frecuency or memory, on auto shows mems at 1333 and cpu at 3200, but if I choose manual, or xmp or any other profile than auto it shows crazy numbers, for example the bclk shows 356 and can't go lower, only up to 500, but can't put 100 or any other number below 356, with pci-e it only shows 356, not even let me change. Is there a way you can check on this? I want to run the cpu at stock, because it will be for videoediting, but the memory i will try to run the 24 gb at 1600 9 9 9. Can you help me with that?

Doesn't sound like this guy knows much about editing a bios, best not trust them,
you may have gotten lucky it didn't brick your motherboard this time.
Next time you may not be so lucky, go back to stock bios while you still can.

But if I go back to the original bios, by default the audio is enabled and I have the same problema again, can't boot, enter the bios or do anything.

I know this is an ancient thread but just had to post.

Thank you Werty, your advice saved what was left of my hair!! I'd recently re-enabled the onboard sound to test it out (sound was scratchy and intermittent so I disabled it ages ago and installed a SoundBlaster) and that's when the boot problems started. I would have never guessed that that was the problem. Removing/reinstalling the CPU was the key to getting into BIOS.

A million thanks effendi, may you bathe in beer and be waited on by 1000 cumly, scantily clad Valkyrie warrior maidens.
