Specs: CPU - i5 8600k OC'd to 4.8 Ghz
RAM- 2x8gb ddr4 corsair vengeance 2400 mhz
GPU - MSI GTX 970
CPU Cooler - H75 Corsair watercooler
Motherboard - Asus z370 A Pro
PSU- Atrix 600W
So I recently put together this PC, all components were recently bought (within last 2 weeks) apart from the GPU and PSU. I successfully Overclocked my CPU to 4.8ghz and decided to try and push my GPU a bit. I downloaded MSI afterburner, and MSI kombuster. I started my overclocking process by slowly raising the core clock speed by 40mhz every 30 seconds and looking for any freezes or flickering in the MSI kombuster stress test. When I got up to 160mhz I decided to tryout a game and see how it went. It seemed fine at first and I definitely saw an improvement in FPS however after around 10 mins my PC crashed and automatically restarted. I then lowered the core clock speed by around 30 and relaunched the game, confused because it seemed fine in the stress test. Again the same thing happened, my pc crashed after around 10 mins, restarting my pc, I done the same thing by lowering the core clock speed and repeated this process around 3-4 more times.
Eventually I had enough and decided to try and stress test from the start but for longer intervals. I decided I would start from +40 mhz core clock speed and raise every minute by 40. Everything seemed fine, however after around 40 seconds after I got to 120mhz my PC completely crashed. When I went closer to my PC I noticed a strong burning smell. When trying to relaunch my PC all I could see was my fans start to spin for a split second, my motherboard lights turn on for a split second, and that was it.
I replaced my PSU, removed my GPU and tried to start the PC... again the same problem. Did I fry my whole PC? what did I do wrong? any help is appreciated thanks.
