Hello everyone. I am having an odd problem. I know that people post things like this all the time, but I feel they get resolved for the user and I didn't want to clutter up their post. I have a custom built PC running windows 7 64bit. Recently before a hardware change, I had been experience random shut downs of the computer. Either I would be in the middle of doing something or it would happen over night. Some times I would get a couple within a day and sometimes I would go a week plus without a problem.
During this time, I started to have some problems with my power supply. It was 5 years old and was on its way out. 1 of the 4 pin atx plugs for the mobo decided to burn out. When it did this, it appeared to slightly melt the plastic clip for the atx connector for the mobo. I switched to the second atx connector on the power supply and continued on.
Recently, I have replaced the power supply in favor of something more modular. With the new hardware in place, I am still experiencing these shut downs randomly. Though it does seem like they are more frequent when overclocking the processor.
I am not getting BSOD's and no dump files to my knowledge. I am curious to know if there is a way to troubleshoot on whether the motherboard is the problem. While I know that all the evidence points to this, I just wanted to get the communities opinion and expertise before I go and drop another $100.
