Hi,

I recently bought a new custom built PC and ever since I've been playing games, the screen goes black at random intervals, I can still move my mouse and react in game but the screen it self remains black for 2-3 seconds. The games I have currently tried and this occurred is:

Warframe - When you're joining or starting a mission the loading screen where you're in the orbiter and you can fly around using the WSAD keys randomly goes black for a second or two.
However the black screen does NOT occur at any other point within the game except that loading screen.

League of Legends - The issue occurs at anytime randomly, it can be when you're fighting or when you're simply walking to lane, without any sort of explanation or obvious trigger.

My PC specs are as followed

Processor (CPU)Intel® Core™ i9 24-Core Processor i9-13900K (3.0GHz) 36MB Cache
MotherboardGIGABYTE Z790 AORUS MASTER (LGA1700, DDR5, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0, WIFI6E) - ARGB Ready
Memory (RAM)32GB Corsair DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card24GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4090 - HDMI, DP
Power SupplyCORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ - MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Power Cable1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)

Change to: 1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)

Monitor is

G70A UHD, 144Hz, HDMI 2.1 Odyssey Gaming Monitor

The cable connecting the monitor and GPU is a display port cable, I am running both games at 4k resolution and the display is set to 144HRz in the settings, I have also changed the power saving to performance in hopes it would change, which sadly it did not.

It is worth noting that from the start that every 10th restart/start up of the PC it does freeze or give 3 beeps with the code D6.

Like I say this PC is new barely 2 months old and has warranty if anyone believes I should send this back for hardware issues.

I am fine with the PC freezing upon starting up once every 10th start up or so, but the black screen gaming is becoming a real pain and ruins the fun/immersion.

I am really hoping someone here has advice or tips to try.

Thank you!

(sorry for the bad English also)

Your BIOS is not listed on the support site, might want to update the BIOS while you're there, then clear CMOS and see f the issue persists.
Sorry I'm useless with this stuff, how do you mean is it not listed on the support site? and which update for the BIOS should I download?

lastly, how would one clear the "CMOS"? assuming I know what that is, which I don't hah

You need to first download and update the BIOS version of your motherboard. F8a is the latest version listed on that website. You can update the BIOS via the GIGABYTE Control Center app. You can also read this guide first.

Anyway, the easiest way to clear the CMOS is to enter the BIOS setup utility and choose Reset BIOS Settings to their factory default levels. The exact menu option in your particular motherboard's BIOS may differ but look for phrases like reset to default, factory default, clear BIOS, load setup defaults, etc.

Every manufacturer seems to have their own way of wording it. The BIOS Settings option is usually located near the bottom of the screen, or at the end of your BIOS options, depending on how it's structured. If you're having trouble finding it, look close to where the Save or Save & Exit options are because they're usually around those.

Another way to clear CMOS is to reseat the CMOS battery. Start by making sure your computer is unplugged. Next, open up your computer's case.

Finally, remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then put it back in. Close the case . By disconnecting and then reconnecting the CMOS battery, you remove the source of power that saves your computer's BIOS settings, resetting them to default.

Another way to clear the CMOS is to short the CLEAR CMOS jumper on your motherboard, assuming your motherboard has one. Make sure your computer is unplugged and then open it up.

Look around your motherboard's surface for a jumper with the CLEAR CMOS label, which will be located on the motherboard and near the jumper. These jumpers are often located near the BIOS chip itself or next to the CMOS battery. Some other names by which you might see this jumper labeled include CLRPWD, PASSWORD, or even just CLEAR.

Please do all these things VERY very carefully. If you are not comfortable, then ask someone else for help, if need.

Hi mate,

really appreciate the response.

After doing all that the issue is still persisting, I am curious if its maybe a G-SYNC issue?

Hi, I'm not fully sure whether G-SYNC might be the culprit here. But as someone suggested above, use some other different display (TV or monitor) to check the system, if possible.

Though, it could also be a faulty cable as well.

However the black screen does NOT occur at any other point within the game except that loading screen.

Based on this observation it appears your system should be okay/stable, because if the Black screen does not occur later in the game, then something else might be behind this odd behavior.

Maybe try playing some other PC games to narrow out the problem ? Play a totally different PC game which is demanding enough on the hardware, IF possible.

Good morning mate,

So I have tried another monitor and a new DP cable and the issue still occurs, is worth noting the monitor is also 144hz G-SYNC compatible too.

I have tried playing TW3 and the black flickering doesn't occur, at least not that I have seen (only played 3 hours or so)

its making me feel like maybe the uncapped fps?

Maybe try capping the FPS and see how it goes ? You are using a 144Hz screen I presume ?

It is worth noting that from the start that every 10th restart/start up of the PC it does freeze or give 3 beeps with the code D6.

A 3 beep with the D6 error code could be due to your system RAM, though some other causes are also there. Like loose power cables on the mobo, also check the 24 pin, the CPU cables and also the PSU's PCIe cables going into the GPU.

On Some EVGA and ASUS motherboards, the D6 is actually referred to as "No Console Output Devices are found" error. Not sure about Gigabyte though.
