Random crashes followed by "Preparing security options" and "no boot device found"

I have been getting this issue ~hourly on my 3 year old custom PC. It occurs randomly. I can move my cursor, but Windows is not responsive (not even ctrl+alt+delete). One time I was playing a game of Age of Empires and Windows froze, yet I was still able to communicate through Skype, before the following happened (same thing every time):

Windows goes to a blue screen (not BSOD, but the blue you'd see upon startup or shutdown) and says "Preparing security updates" for a few seconds and then restarts itself. Upon restarting I get the BIOS error "No bootable device found," and I have to power down and restart manually in order to get back on to Windows.

I have tried Windows' built-in RAM and HDD/SSD scanner and it found no issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard of this issue being cause by a Virus, Try a virus scan, make sure your definitions are up to date first, also it couldn't hurt to run malware bytes.
Also Try this:
Run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow (note the space before the backslash)
If errors are found, run the tool again (up to 3 times) with a restart between each run.
