CPU: Intel i7-5930k, 6 core - 12 Threads, 3.50Ghz - 3.70Ghz, 15MB Cache.
GPU: Gigabyte gtx 980 Ti Xtreme Waterforce 6Gb, 1216Mhz - 1317Mhz boost in Gaming mode not in Overclocked mode.
Motherboard: Asus Rampage V Extreme.
Ram: DDR4 G.skill 3000mhz 15-15-15-35 Latency (4x4). Running at 2133.
PSU: Corsair AX1200i Platinum (1200 Watt 80 Plus).
SSD - M.2: Samsung 950 Pro M.2 - 512GB (Operating System, Games, etc).
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro.
Resolution: 1920x1080

Ok so, I've read so many threads so many forums about this issue and I literally can't find anything that helps me solve my problem. Like my title says, I get random fps drops / spikes from 1-10 seconds while playing any game from Warcraft Frozen Throne to Forza 3 (Ultra settings at an average of 100 fps).

Things I tried: Updated GPU drivers / latest Microsoft updates, even tried previous versions. None seems to work. Checked my PC from viruses/malware/PUP with bitdefender total security 2017, Malwarebytes Premium (Trial - Just for this cause), Adwcleaner, CCleaner, advanced systemcare etc my pc is clean, I've had this issue few months ago and like now i've been trying to find a solution. What I did back then was to format my pc and start over which seemed to work. The funny thing is that for some time I used to play my games without these random fps drops etc when my pc was formatted but now I have the same issue.

Some people say re-installing thermal paste should fix the problem but i've run CPU stress test with AIDA64 and my results were 53 Celsius max temperature (10 minutes test). Tested GPU as well and I had normal results. Before and after I formatted my pc.

Also, Ram doesn't exceed 10 Gb. Nvidia is at prefer maximum performance, same as battery options.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. I don't wanna go through formatting my pc again..

I'm assuming laptop, since you mentioned battery options. Have you ever opened it up and dusted it out or had someone do that for you? If not, that could be the cause even if the temperatures are normal.

Thank you for replying. It's not a laptop, it's a custom built desktop pc. The only thing I haven't tried is to remove and reapply the thermal paste on my cpu.

Thank you for your quick response.

The answer is no since my bios setup is set to default. I havent overclocked anything or downclocked.

George

So I looked up your CPU; turns out it only supports up to DDR4-2133, which is why your RAM isn't running at its full speed. I have a feeling that might actually be your issue; the RAM's trying to feed info to the CPU too fast. Grab a couple sticks of actual DDR4-2133 and see if that fixes the issue.

Thank you for your reply.

I believe that's not the case. I highly doubt that I'm the only one whos RAM speeds are higher than what CPU can "handle".

George

I'm willing to bet anyone else whose RAM speeds are higher than what their CPU is rated for are encountering similar issues. Is it not worth at least trying, if only to rule that out?

Thank you for replying.

A friend of mine has the same motherboard and cpu and his ram speeds are 3k as well just a different brand and he doesn't encounter any issues. That's why I wrote what I wrote.

George.

Thank you for taking some time to deal with me!

So we have come to a conclusion that my RAM is probably the issue.
Just to point out, I tried reinstalling windows 10 pro and the problem was gone for a couple of weeks or month.
I always use the same programs (CCleaner and Bitdefender Total Security 2017). The only different on my computer are my games.

George
