Random FPS spikes while playing GW2

Sup bros, I am having a weird issue while playing GW2 who causes my FPS to spike/drop from stable 50-60 to 5-10 for about 5-6 seconds even if i'm not doing anything, then the FPS go again to 50-60 and after one or two minutes the spike happens again.

Here are my specs:

ASUS M5A88-M EVO AM3+
AMD FX 8150 3.6Ghz 8X BLACK EDITION
Corsair TX750 V2 750W
WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 64MB
Kingston HyperX XMP T1 DDR3 1600 PC3
Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5

I'm not overclocking, tried a fresh Windows7 install, I have the latest drivers but nothing works. My temps playing at best appearance mode are 65º~ on the CPU and 60º~ on the GPU. ¿Can be a problem related to temps?

While using CPU-Z I noticed my VCORE drops from 1.40 to 0.90 when the spike is happening.

I really hope u guys can help me to resolve this problem because I tried a lot of things since the launch of the game and I'm still having this issue 🙁

BTW sry for my english, I'm Spanish I tried my best. Thanks u all :)

Well right off the bat I can tell you the reason the Vcore is dropping is because the CPU clock speed is dropping down to its lowest power setting, which would certainly cause very low fps. Now given that I've never had an AMD CPU but 1.4v seems pretty high... Especially for no OC. Even on my i7 that I have overclocked significantly I don't like to see it above 1.33 on Vcore. I also have another i5 that with an OC doesn't even hit 1.3v. So I'm not totally sure, that could be an ok voltage with AMD but seems a tad high, but that could be what is causing the fps dips; the CPU is at too high of a voltage for it to handle (or temp maybe) so it drops itself down to lower clock speeds, thus decreasing voltage, and thus decreasing game performance significantly.

So it's a little hard to say where to start for this one coming from an Intel guy, but I'd try resetting BIOS and repairing game install if possible.

Hi Iyzik, thanks for your response!

I didn't touch anything from the BIOS I just updated it to the last version so I don't know if the voltage is too high or not, the computer is new (has two weeks) so I don't know what is happening, should I try to reset the BIOS?

Thanks again.

Wow two weeks pretty new, nice rig.

Anyway yes try resetting the BIOS and if that does not work then try underclocking the CPU a little and see what happens.

Another that you could be suffering from (but prob not, urs sounds more severe) is bad game coding in GW2, it doesn't utilize multiple cores very well. In fact it utilizes them terribly. I have a similar problem with an i7 and two 7970s in CF, and I have come to the result that there is no fix unless they update it. It dips to 40 fps seemingly randomly with very low CPU usage and GPUs around ~30% usage. But dips to 5 is much worse...

I think your voltage is pretty close to right with the 8150 chip. and it is stable with an air cooler up to something like 1.485. I am personally of the mind that it is sloppy coding on their end that is causing the issues. As of tonight i don't even think my step son logged into the game because of the low frames and the spikes he gets on our machines.

The spikes happens when playing Skyrim too so I don't think is a problem from GW2 only (atleast for me) 🙁

I've just glanced through it quickly, but have you tried disabling all the engery saving and auto up and down (Turbo) clocking in the BIOS and set everything manually?

Also 1.4v is not high for an AMD FX.
