Hi guys. Lately I've been experiencing some random crashes while gaming. No black screen, no blue screen, no reboot, nothing of that. It just freezes (my cursor freezes too) and I have to force a reboot from the case power button. I never had a problem like that before, i used to run heavier games without problems. Plus, it started happening with <Mod Edit> 2D pixelated games (especially on loading screens and while saving, but anyway it happens also in random moments. The freezes also happened after the reboot if i tried to run a heavy program) This is what i tried:

  • Clean my pc (I did it manually and used lots of programs)
  • Scan for virus (malwarebytes, avast, windows defender, adwcleaner)
  • Updated all the drivers, especially from the graphic card
  • Checked GPU temperature (30-40°C while using other programs, 70-80°C while gaming but i don't really know if it's normal or not)
  • Fix registry errors
  • Check if my SSD works fine (i figured out it was very slow but then fixed it by setting AHCI on the BIOS. It didn't solve the problem...)
  • Reinstall windows (without formatting)
I have 1 SSD and an external hard disk. I put all the workstation programs (photoshop, premiere pro etc) on the SSD, and games on the external disk. They have enough space. I tried to switch positions (downloading the games on the SSD and viceversa) but it didn't work. My graphic card is not the best and i think that's the main problem, but if you have any other solution before i spend money (and to try avoiding hardware damage) would be appreciated.

I have not the best hardware, but i don't want the best graphics or FPS. I just want to play :) Plus, my video editing programs while I work are slowing down lately.

Here's the hardware:

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You forgot to mention the make and model of your PSU and it's age. How are you cooling that processor? Make and model of your case? Airflow, fan orientation in your case and your ambient air temps? As for your platform, did you try and reinstall your GPU drivers after running DDU to remove them? Manually reinstall your GPU drivers in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Hi! Thank you for the reply!
I don't really know the model of the PSU, but i knew it was a 700w one. I bought the components in 2021 so them all has 2 years old. Except for the GPU which is older, maybe from 2019. The case is zalman i3 neo tg midi tower with tempered glass. Can't really give details about the airflow... is it enough to say i have 3 fans? The problem started with the summer and high temperatures, and the hot ambient was the first thing that pop out in my mind when the problem occured. But even with a colder ambient the problem doesn't seem to change.

Yes I tried updating the drivers first, then when it didn't work i used a DDU and installed manually the drivers. Thank you
