Random freezing and lag spikes when playing games.

So recently in the last two weeks I have been having random lag spikes every 30 minutes or so when playing games like BF4 and GTA V. Its odd because the game will be fine and consistant even when things like explosions are happening. But suddenly it will freeze or drop to 3FPS.

I have reset my PC, and updated the drivers and downgraded them and trying all of that hasn't helped.

I play with settings on medium on BF4 and on High on GTA V. BF4 is consistent 144FPS when the problem isnt happening and GTA V is around 70-90 when the problem isnt happening.

It is also odd because sometimes there will be no issue.

Usually my GPU is around 78C and CPU is about 60C

My Specs are:

i7-4790k
MSI Titan X
TP Link WiFI card
MSI Z97A GAMING 6 Motherboard
Acer 144Hz Monitor
16GB Kingston RAM
120GB Samsung SSD (operating system)
240GB Kingston SSDnow

Windows 10 64-bit.

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Thanks in advance ! Nathan

If you intend to stay with it (same as I — I can't just swallow that $130 down my throat that easily), and you have already upgraded to their latest updates, there are two options to solve that lag:

1- Uninstall Xbox app (if you don't need it) using PowerShell;
2- Re-install Windows 10 as a clean, fresh install.

My friends always urge me to downgrade and buy a key off ebay, but I paid £100+ for windows 10 when I built my PC, and they dont give me any option to downgrade.

The odd thing is that I never had this issue before It always used to run fine. I have tried the latest version and OOBE and the same issue is happening. This is very confusing for me as I cant identify for certain what the problem is.

Thank you again for your reply :)

I wish I would have just purchased Windows 7 lol, Windows 10 just seemed easier to purchase. But I guess Microsoft will make it that way because they want everyone on Windows 10.

edit ***
I didnt upgrade it purchased windows 10 from amazon.

Thanks, Nathan
