Hi everyone,
Lately my PC has been randomly shutting down and then starting up again a few seconds later. This seems to primary happen under stress. (Gaming)
I have also experienced strange locks/stutters where the audio stutters and then the pc catches up after some time but never enough to really do anything.
What I am wondering is, could this be a PSU issue? The stuttering doesn't seem like it would be to me but the random loss of power seems like it could be a safety triggering. I have been messing around with my rig quite a bit to see if I can figure it out myself, but have gotten rather annoyed with it lately.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

- Related to a hardware error,
-You could try using different RAM (borrow from another pc/person?)
-If it's not the RAM, it's a PSU fault

(the above from what i've experienced in other systems, changing RAM has fix it but PSU is a secondary issue if not)

That would be kind of crappy if it's the RAM...
$300 ram shouldn't fail 🙁
I'll try to see if I can get ahold of some to try.

kind of a random thought but what about the internal memory controller on my CPU, could that cause problems?

I've ran memory tests recently also. Not saying it should eliminate RAM as a problem but they always passed

I build servers and maintain servers for a living - I NEVER put the operating system on a RAID array of any kind....it isn't worth the risk. It is always better to have a single drive for the operating system and most common used programs. RAID in a lot of motherboards will have issues with it reading/writing to the cache and/or drives, which can create the problems you are describing.

On the servers I build, I am also using RAID controllers that are $500 - $15,000 to control 10-20 drives (with a surplus of 4 drives per 10 installed in case of any failure). I only put data on these drives (no applications) - and they are backed up daily....

At home - I have a total of zero RAID arrays on the 5 computers I use....

Referring back to your original post, did the problem arise after any hardware/software changes you made recently? Or was it just a sudden issue with no probable cause to account for it?
