Hello! Something strange is happening from some weeks, when I updated my Windows 10 to the Creators Update(fall) my pc started to randomly restarts (3 times until now) without any reason.. My CPU/GPU are not overheating or even motherboard there is like no reason to do it. Before I update the Windows I had like no problems like this..
My specs:
CPU : AMD FX-6300 with 212x
GPU : 1060 6gb
RAM : 8 GB DDR3
HDD : old 500gb hdd
PSU : FSP Raider 650W 80+ Silver
Mobo: Asus M5A78L-M LX3 (old until I upgrade the cpu)

Solution
Looks to be an OS bug of some sort that you folks discovered. You may want to point this issue to MS support. Also, by disabling Fast Startup, it forces your system to shutdown and Cold Boot like Windows 7 did when shutdown is selected. Windows 8 introduced Fast Startup, which carried over to 8.1 and now 10. If the system random reboots, the system will perform a full boot of the OS kernel. Normally, if you shut down with Fast Startup enabled, the OS info is saved to disk as the hiber.sys file, and this file is read on boot vs. loading everything from scratch. This is where the much faster boots come from.
I'm having the same thing happen to me as well. I've looked all over the internet and can't find anything relating to it. Idk if it does the same for you, but my computer will boot up way quicker than it usually does, especially at the login screen, and after it randomly restarts, it goes back to normal boot times

Yes exactly the same issue!!! When it randomly restart the boot time goes to normal! I cleaned my pc and if something change I'll pm u !

Hello there! First time posting here. But I have experienced the same problem on my folks' PC.

FX-6300, 1060 and some asrock mobo.

Everything was working perfectly fine until Fall Creators update. I'll get into bit more detail. And then - a possible solution.

The error windows is showing me is:
A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Component: AMD Northbridge
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: 11
Processor APIC ID: 0

(Any of You guys getting the same error from the event viewer?)

I have swapped RAM, stress tested CPU, GPU, checked SSD and HDD for errors - nothing.
Temps are perfect under heavy load and computer is perfectly stable even after couple hours of gaming, so I believe that the problem is not really hardware-related.

But! The restart usually happens when watching a movie, surfing the net or doing some extremely light stuff. And it would happen every 5 days. It happened today, but before that - it was working perfectly for 7 days. There is no hang or anything like that screen just goes black - it boots back in like 20 seconds and everything is fine. And again - it only started after Fall Creators update.

So I was doing some digging now and I have found something on AMD's forums : https://community.amd.com/thread/198416

This post:
Hey! I had this problem for a long time and what made it stop for me was going into Power Options, then "Choose What The Power Button Does", then "Change settings that are currently unavailable" then UNCHECK "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" then hit "save changes". SHUT DOWN the computer completely, then turn it back on. Something about that setting causes fatal errors. I hope this helps, best of luck!

I have changed this setting and now I'm just waiting for the results. :)

It seems that it's working for some people over there

Please let me know if this works, thank You :)

So, it does make sense that some leftover file is maybe making a conflict and causing pc to restart?

I mean, coincidence is just too great thax FXes and mobos just started malfunctioning after the update. I was actually thinking about getting my folks a new mobo, but that probably wouldn't solve the problem, if this is a software bug.

To be sure, about the issue. When PC is starting on Cold Boot, it gets to login screen, reboots, then boots and functions normally. Is this correct? If so, i've seen something similar myself awhile back on my Skylake Z170 build. It was a bug with a certain Windows update that corrected after a cumulative update of 10. Disabling fast startup fixed it. From what I gather, the shutdown command was being saved in the hiber.sys file. During cold boot, the file that was saved and loaded follows the command and pc turn off. The next "slower boot" was normal. In my case the, my PC would power off with the bug, not restart.

Actually, no. It would work for some time, 4-5-6 days and than just restart. There is no "restarting" screen, just black screen and then boots normally. From what I've gathered that's the same thing others are experiencing.

I'm just waiting to see if it is fixed now. :)

Same problems here.
Windows bug check/WHEA Logger even came up with fatal hardware error 0x124 BSOD - restarts every two or three days since Fall Creators Update.

Tried it all: temp watch, mem test; sfc scan, Inplace upgrade; BIOS and driver update; hardware diagnostics - even clean install within media creation tool/ fresh driver installation didnt solve it. System is one y.o., sort of fresh btw.

Was searching for solution every day but only found others with same issue using AMD tech.
Glad I found this tonight! Hopefully that advice finally bring that mess to an end. Will response in here nxt weekend.

THX in advance!

edit:
regarding named BSOD above since FC update, the following thread (page 3) speaks volumes:

am kinda sure the check field for "automatic restarts due to system failure" was empty then.
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/69012-enable-disable-bsod-automatic-restart-windows-10-a.html

strange thing about hiberfil.sys, there are also related event display warnings since creators update:

Zengjovan, can you elaborate on what you did to correct your issue? I'm not sure whose advice you followed to rectify the issue. Did you set the "Automatic Restart" under Startup and Recovery to unchecked/disabled?

Hi tomslefthandman,
I also followed the instructions from zengjovan's post above
(referring to amd's forum https://community.amd.com/thread/198416 - donrob's post, Nov 2nd)

"Hey! Since disabling(uncheck) fast boot option on Nov 19th, no bsod (with auto-restart) has occurred.

Note: probably every bigger Microsoft update will automatically re-enable this option (like fall creators update did).

sull_83, Thanks for the details. I went ahead and applied the workaround/fix to about 25 computers. Now time will tell. The computers that were affected, would randomly restart anywhere between 5 and 10 days between instances. Thanks again.

I just turned off fastboot. But it seems that the problem came back after December update. One user over at AMD forums reported it again. We'll see what happens.

No probs over here (till now) despite two cumulative updates this month (last one 12/13 - respectively 12/16 "update for x64 systems").

Feel desolate though. Thought that issue was solved.
Will keep watching this and reply, esp. when affected again.

Anyway, festively greetings!

Hello guys,

I have the same problem issued above and applied today the solution provided, will keep posting if the problem still occurs.

My PC:
AMD A10 7870K
Saphire R7 370 4GB GDDR5
RAM 8 Gb DDR3
MOBO ASUS

There is no information in Event Viewer just goes black screen and then reboots randomly. At your place is still happening the random restarts?

Thanks in advance,

Raul

This problem seems to be only with AMD processors. I bought 2 HP laptops four days ago. One for my wife which has an AMD Processor & associated chips & the other, for myself, which has an Intel Processor. I did all the Windows & HP updates at the same time on both Laptops. My wife's one has restarted twice in the manner talked about here. Mine has not faulted. I rang HP & they did not know what was causing the problem with my wife's Laptop. They want me to do all sorts of testing but I think I will just turn off the Fast Startup & see what happens. I will set it up that when she presses the power button during the course of the day, it will hibernate so she will only go through the complete cold boot once a day. Thanks for those who post here :)

Edited to mention that my wife & I had been using Toshiba Laptops that both had Intel Processors in them & never had this problem.

Me too, same thing...have update all my pilot,, doesn't help....issue appears just after window 10 update creator !!!! I don't know what to do'...blluescreen : AMD northbridge fatal error 11 !!!

Do this as mentioned above:

Helps so far!
Note: after bigger MS updates most probably an autorecovery will happen systemwise; just uncheck again.

Thanks. nothing happen now for 2 days... I have reinstalle the AMD pilot again !!! run a window scan that have advice me to change the options power for a shorter sleeping time from 30 mn to 5 mns !!!!

need to go to settings and then :solve the problem....and test one by one all the list until the last one : bluescreen (for windows 10 )

will aplly your advice if its happen again..........thanks and sorry for my poor English language :)
