Hi everyone

My name is John. I recently got new PC with these specs and I have a random shut down problem

Motherboard Asus Maximus VII Hero Z97 1150 chipset
CPU. I7 4790K 4Ghz
GPU GTX 970 4G
PSU Corsair RM 750W
2x8G Kyngston Hyper X Beast 2400 mhz
Water Colling H110 Corsair
SSD 250 Samsung 840evo
2 more HDD with Windows and 1 more SSD 120 with Windows aswell
Case Corsair Graphite 760T
DVD RW

I think the Ram runs at 1600 MHz. Not knowing for now where to check or change it right now
Don't know if the RM 750W is the problem for the random shut down ( I do have old CX 600W Corsair to change and check if the PSU is faulty

I do get random shut down while and after installing the motherboard drivers from the cd that came with it. But not always. It's like random. Don't know what triggers it.

I have old 8 G ram to change and check if ram is faulty

I need help to understand what may cause the problem

I'll come back with updates as I go on testing

Thank you all.

Flash the motherboard with the latest BIOS update. You can set those RAMs from the BIOS setup to 2400Mhz using XMP profile. Also for troubleshooting, remove all the HHDs and SSDs and keep only the system SSD and check whether the issue still persist. Cause some old drives can cause such things too.

Thanks for those quick reply. I will start to do what you all suggested.

Right now I successfully installed fresh windows and finished with motherboard cd drivers and utility with no random shut down experience.

The PC is not hot as I can see temperature now in CPUz

Problem must come frome somewhere else.

I will do the suggested above for ram and the removal of Hdd

Now downloading nvidia drivers with GeForce experience. No more shut down until now . Last time I had a shut down when installing the nvidia drivers.i hope to pass this time :). Maybe I run on CPU only. Don't know. I'll go ahead and test it further to see what happens
I'll come back with updates

Oddly enough, I have the same hardware as you and and the same problem. Everything is brand new and system shuts off maybe once a month. The worst part, it only does so when im sleeping and the system is idle! ALl the drivers are installed and working perfectly, its just once a month ill wake up to the computer being off.

i thought it may be the voltage feature, which turns the system off when the voltage gets too low or too high but i am in a dedicated power line that was just installed, configured and tested by 2 different electricians. Its also connected to a brand new surge protector that also seems to be working perfectly. i don't want to remove the voltage protection feature because it warns connected devices may break if i do so (if that is the problem).

I just wish i could figure this out. its not windows updates and i cant seem to find a log of any kind stating why. The system is working perfectly besides this randomly sparse and spuratic problem that only happens when I'm sleeping and the system isn't being utilized. When i am on it, i am gaming my heart out without any problems! So weird.

I had the same problem which is why i ran across this forum. I finally figured my problem out and so I figured id share. Apparently when Installed my ram the h100i was pushing against the first stick of ram. this was enough to shove the ram which led to my random shutdowns (a bit like someone holding the power button when i wasnt looking). since I moved my ram into A2 and B2 i havent had any more issues.

I have an i7 4790K and an Asus Hero VII ROG motherboard... and I too have had the random shutdown issue.

I have update my bios to newest version, switch out memory sticks to different brands and slots, removed 1 of 2 AMD HD 7970 video cards... tried the other video card... still shuts down. I have an Corsair H110i? or 100i water cooler and it purrs like a kitten and doesn't come close to hitting any ram sticks in any slots.

I read that someone else bought a brand new 1000w PSU and switched out their old one and nothing changed.
I did not want to repeat this last course of action as power supplies are expensive.

Finally i think the issue is resolved.. But I don't know what bios setting I changed that fixed it. It would shut off about 2 times a day, and now 2 days passed and it seems fine.
For bios settings I would disable C6 State, Speedstep, Turbo Features, Auto Overclock features, set your memory speed up manually and whatever else you think may be an issue.

I did tweak some stuff with the memory that was labeled something like Memory Tweaking <auto> and I change it to <full power phase> or something to that effect.

I seems the default values are not stable on this motherboard and you will need to tweak stuff in the setting even if you don't know what your doing to get it stable... or just buy a different brand/model motherboard. Biostars have always been good to me for customers builds, but I do like my ROG boards (I have 2 - one Intel and one AMD ROG) both are awesome...and the AMD doesn't throw fits and shutdown. :)
