Hello guys,

I will be upgrading my haswell rig this weekend. I want all of you guys to rate it out of 10 for playing the latest games at console-high settings at 60fps or ultra at 30fps depending on the game.

Here is my planned rig:

i7 4790 3.6 - 4.0ghz
gtx 960 4gb and overclock it
8gb ddr3
wd blue 1 tb
asus b85m g
corsair vs550 psu

So what do you guys think? Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you guys.

the cpu and mb are fine..newer skylakes are not much faster in games then haswell. your better off using the game pc with the same cpu and mb till it dies. i would install a 256g ssd as the boot drive for speed. then when pascal gpu drop latter this year go with one of them.

The Xeon below is essentially an i7-4770 without integrated graphics. i7 performance and great cost savings.

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($57.99 @ Adorama)

How does that matter? All I need is suggestions and take of different people to enhance my rig. Anyways, what do you think of the rig?

Dont you think that hyperthreading will help in newer games and various other softwares and improve the overall performance.

Moreover, I hv seen that a better cpu increases the min fps making it a more smoother experience. And the i7 will make last another gpu upgrade so it could potentially stay for around 4-5 years just like i7 980 or i7 2500k as it already runs at 4 ghz.

As for the psu, I am not upgrading it. I have this psu for the past 2 years and it has served me good.

What do you say, brother?

Games will benefit from the better CPU but that doesn't mean the rig is balanced. Less on the CPU (go for the Xeon E3-1231 V3) and more on the GPU (GTX 970) would be better.
